Have never had that happen. I've been buying bath towels at Costco for years.

Lands End. I usually get their Supima, more expensive ones.

If you have a Macy's or Bloomingdale's near you, or want to order online, their Hotel Collection is very good. I bought them for my bathroom when I renovated in in 2009, and I just last year replaced them, with the same brand. They are nice and plush, and very well made.

I also like Matouk, but they are fairly expensive.

I have bath towels from Garnet Hill, and they have held up beautifully so far (1 year in).

I have towels that have been washed and bleached several HUNDRED times, a thousand times, and this has never, ever happened. I don't tolerate a towel if the hem scrunches/shrinks, either.

I will note? I never buy a bath towel in a color. You want color? Save it for hand towels.

I wash in warm water, on power wash with a double rinse, and I NEVER use a fabric softener, which destroys absorbency. Getting ALL the soap out is a guarantee for a soft towel. Same for sheets.

Fabric softener is THE worst thing to happen to all linens, and if you don't believe it? Run water on your lint screen.......: (

If it is your habit? You will find water does not want to pass through the screen.

When you choose towels in person, check the hems to see that they are sewn with the same straight stitch on both sides. Chain stitched hems can unravel easily.

A sewing machine will fix that.

My tip? Before you stow in the linen closet for use?

You wash all three times, ALONE , dry three times. Only the first needs any soap. Is this a pain IN THE TUSH? Yeah.....but it will choke your lint screen with fluff, and you will finally have a towel that doesn't leave lint all over your body.
