Almost exactly a year ago, September 25th 2024, DH left for Chicago, his mother was dying. .Two days later hurricane Helene hit. Two weeks with no power and no water followed. Last Saturday DH left for Chicago to trend to his father. We both checked the weather before he left. Skies are clear but power went out 15 minutes ago. I'm sensing a pattern here.

@nicole I've seen some of the CO hail damage - wicked stuff.

@bpath recovery depends on where you look. I think 40% might be a bit too dismal overall but certainly in some areas it's accurate and even worse in others. The big on the ground show of 'I'm going to get you everything you need' lasted about as long as the average news cycle. Our governor is going to WA tomorrow to seeking assistance.

All is well. Whatever cause the power outage was fixed quickly but I'm still going to fill up a few water bottles and the bathtub just in case!

Glad to hear the power is back on. I arrived in SC shortly before Helene arrived last year. We were fortunate our power was only out for about 36 hours. It kind of drove me nuts not being able to get any reports of what was going on - very bad cell service too. This year I have a hand crank/solar/battery radio. Hopefully I’ll never need it.

Hurricane season....Oh my! Those are very scary. We've been out at sea when warnings came over the com to take shelter. The ships captain was able to go behind a small island until it was over. A one day thang. Here, in Colorado, it's hail we have to worry about. We just spent the weekend repairing hail damage on one of the houses. The siding is just crushed, like baseballs hit it.

Today on a plane I sat next to someone from the Piedmont area, they had a relative who lived in the Asheville area. I asked about the recovery, and they said it was about 40% back. So much loss!

Nicole, I was returning from a visit to your town and my cousins said the same thing about the hail. We get occasional hail where we live in NE IL but that kind of damage is rare, although we did get such damage a year or two ago.
