I'd paint just that end wall, looks like young children, the backpack hooks and message center looks great.

Get a better rug at each door (wide enought to do the job of opening and closing without stepping off the rug). You don't need to have more rugs if you wipe your feet at the door... better yet, take your shoes off.

If no mirror at the end of the hall, a simple canvas piece that is welcoming.

Yes, a console is too much, especially if you already have something at the front door.

Perhaps a narrow console at the end of the hall.
