They protrude 3" or so. I would not let that bother me if you want the modern look. If your bathroom is that tight I would probably not use anything that sticks out, square or rounded.

No need to have the same in all the bathrooms. Go rounded in the tiny bathroom and square in the others.

I have a modern house - went with rounded but LONGER than the normal. 24" in my master and 18" in the secondary baths. Having square corners just feels wrong in a bath and EVERYTHING in my house is rectilinear!

WHAT are the other elements in the bath? What is the flavor/style? If you can't pass a shower door handle without poking yourself? The bath has clearance/layout issues!
