I just wanted to show you a picture of two wintersweet plants (Chimonanthus praecox) I grew from seed.

They are the yellow flower color variety.

It's actually pretty unusual to grow these type of plants from seed. The seeds came from a seller in the Bay Area in California.

Wintersweet seeds can be viable for a fairly long period of time, maybe 2 or even 3 years, but it seems the majority of online sellers are selling seeds that are older than that and will not be able to grow. These seeds were freshly harvested from the seller's plant.

Wintersweet is a little unusual in that the tree has fragrant flowers in the winter, even though the tree is deciduous. The flowers are nicely pleasantly fragrant.

Not really a plant for all climates. It's only hardy down to climate zone 7. In climate zone 10, it can grow but may not grow the best, unless it's in the cooler areas on the mid California coast.

This plant is a lot more popular in China than it is anywhere else.

For some reason this plant just doesn't seem to be extremely popular or well known in the U.S., though large botanical gardens will usually have one in their collection.
