It is a common practice now to discharge as soon as possible to home. Or do lots of outpatient sx. Glad it was uneventful. Onwards!

I need to get my shower today. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 That means the tape comes off. I have minimal exercises to do, but they are

really difficult to do. I also have to get Bert to water well and then do the final slug drench. Pain is not as well controlled

    as I’d like. 😣😣😣

debra..I had fractures..I forget the timing (shower..bandage removal..stitches removal..sling removal etc) but I'm pretty sure you're doing things sooner after surgery than I did! 👍..that's great..

Ann, I have decided there’s a reason for why the Dr. put me in a minimal sling. It supports the the arm but allows more
    passive

movement than a restricted splint. It allows muscles and tendons to move at a bit at a faster rate than if it I was in

a restricted splint. Believe me, I am not doing cartwheels yet 🤭, but I am gaining mobility. The doctor changed up my

medication to help with the pain, so I’m hoping that helps with the pain issue I mentioned earlier. I have a bunch of

good books to read but I’m afraid to start and not be able to maintain attention to storyline and details. Maybe I can try in

a week or so? Anyone else have this issue for a while after a surgery??

debra..it does seem therapeutic to move around a little..physical therapy will give you a workout..you know..you've done it..I had pain medicine but I think I deserved stronger medicine 😉....but I managed with what I had..I was sleepy after taking my medicine..

I was on my phone a lot..I played songs on YouTube..I didn't try reading a book..a book seemed awkward to hold..I was clear headed..I think your painkillers might be stronger than mine were..

Ann you may be right about that, heavy duty meds to start with but those became very constipating 😝! So I had to have the doctor change things up. Doing better with the changes.
I am surprised that a week out from surgery, I have pretty good mobility. My whole arm down to my hand is swollen though. That’s to be expected! I am mostly watching tv and hanging out online. I have watched a couple of good movies on Netflix. And, still walking around the yard a bit……still have live hostas and flowering perennials!!

debra..oh no..I used MiraLAX..yes painkillers have side effects 😬..how great that this early you have "pretty good mobility" 👍..I watched TV and was online too..strolling around my yard was wonderful..it took my mind off my pain..

I think working outside (once I could) helped me recover faster..

I'm glad you're doing so well..

Surgery is a big deal. It takes your body a while to bounce back, but it sounds like you're doing well. I hope the pain is subsiding, and that every day you feel better and better!

Glad to hear you are doing much better😀. That means you can

    supervise the hosta move😉

    Sherry

  • last month

Yes, when we’re ready I can oversee that! I also started walking briefly around the neighborhood. Quick, short walks to keep my “system” moving and get some exercise while the weather is nice enough. Today I walked a mile and a half, including steps in the house too.

I am fighting with my sling….. I don’t see the point in wearing it. It really provides little support or prevents me from moving in any detrimental manner….. 😝😝😝

    Hi debra..still doing well I hope 🤗..

I brought my potted plants in..tossed my annuals..I'm still watering my dry landscape..I planted Diamond Lake..but it's too high and I need to redo it 🤦‍♀️..I had a hard time getting it out of the pot..here it is sitting on the ground..

I thought "the hole is deep enough..it'll sink"..but days later I see roots on the surface 🙁..I make mistakes when I'm tired..it was getting dark and I wanted to finish..haste makes waste is so true..right after planting..

Ann, this often happens to me too. It’s frustrating!! Especially with the little ones…..

I thought I would give an update==>>> I saw the doctor on Thursday and he said I was doing great. He said I only needed the sling when I was out and about in crowds. 👏🏽👏🏽I wear it on my walks too. I’ve been averaging a mile or more daily this week. However, we went from Sunny and 75 F yesterday to rainy and 54 F, and chilly today. My pots are in the garage

I see my PT for the first appointment tomorrow. I’m interested to get into my exercises and eventually back to driving. I thought I would spend a lot of time reading all the books I stocked up on, but with the meds I have been on, I don’t have the attention span or focus, lol

debra..what a good report!..the therapist could see my husband drop me off..the front of the building had full view windows..he'd say "I know you could drive..drive to your next appointment"..but I was in no hurry..it scared me..I finally did it so I didn't have to hear about it 😂..

I still need to work on Diamond Lake..

sleeping and resting are therapeutic..go for it!..

This week I started my PT. First appointment was mostly passive movement and him taken his measurements, but boy was I sore the rest of the day. The second appointment was more movement with a tiny challenge. I was exhausted! I fell asleep on the couch with the tv on(unheard of for me), then went up to bed by 8:30, also unheard of for me. Right

now I’m doing pendulum swings and shoulder squeezes at home. DH and I took a walk yesterday as the weather wasn’t too cold but with colder weather coming I’m dependent on others to drive me to the mall if I want to walk there. Driving is a ways off I think.

I started with pendulum swings too!..and a shoulder exercise they called "clocks"..you sit in a chair and do shoulder "circles" forwards and backwards..it looks like you're not doing anything 😅..my first time driving I still had my CRV..my surgery was 7/13/23..we bought our Passport 11/3/23..so it was probably 2 and a half? 3 months? before I started driving..

I'm glad you've started your recovery journey..

I replanted Diamond Lake..it looks much better..a picture of my tall messy trees..😝

    Hi Sherry! Thanks for asking……

Recovery is still going well. PT is difficult but I’m plugging along. I’m healed as the Doctor said, but that means the skin.

Muscles and tendons still need work. I’m not quite driving yet, but close to it. I would say compared to what I expected

the replacement was not that bad. Soon, I will be back to my gardening self!

    Happy holidays everyone!
