This is what I have been doing!

last month

I saw a picture of these on Pinterest and decided to do one for each of the four oldest greats.

I dug through bins pulling out any fabric that said ’autumn’.

My sister had given me some bosal placemat forms some time ago and they got used here.

I am getting ready to send them off.

How adorable, Theresa. Lucky great-grands. You are a very productive quilter.

I just finished my step-daughter’s quilt top, and I’m waiting for the backing to be delivered so I can quilt it. I’m also cutting scraps for one of the three scrappy quilts I hope to piece this winter. It’s using up a bunch of my 2” strips, but never enough of them.

What patterns are you planning to work on, Lois?

While the cleaner was here this morning, I fussed and fussed trying to get three fabrics to play nicely for adult autumn place mats. I would put three together but one would always stand out, then try another and another. Finally, I told myself to stop being so anal, they are only place mats, not heirlooms.

They might end up as heirlooms, you never know. Two of the patterns are free from AllPeopleQuilt.com. They are "Logging On" and "Trail Mix." The third is "Unallocated" by Michelle McKillop. Logging On uses my 2" strips; Unallocated, my 1.5" logs. Unfortunately, because I rarely don't have some color scheme in mind, even for a scappy quilt, some of my precut scraps may never be used. Maybe someday I'll pack them up and bring them to our thrift shop. Some of the logs that I cut for log cabins are either too light to be dark or too dark to be light. I've started using the reverse side of those mid-range fabrics occasionally, if they look good.

I just looked at Unallocated. Way beyond me but you will master it beautifully. and Logging on looks interesting., not your typical log cabin.

I have been collecting patterns, or at least pictures, from Pinterest. I printed off a bunch last week and I was just going over them all, deciphering blocks and block sizes and unit sizes. They are pretty well all scrappies and I do have scraps. When looking for the autumn bits, I went through my black bin and was surprised how many different black prints I had. So now I am thinking about one of those patterns done in black. Hmm! might just work. Check back in a week or so. Next week is Cdn Thanksgiving so I may be in the kitchen til then.

It was amazing, Theresa! One of our stops was at a Turkish rug "factory". They were truly works of art. This was a silk and wool RUG that was framed as a picture. Because there were two types of yarns, the picture was 3-D. Looks just like a photo!
