Looks like you have blinds on all the windows, I'd remove the sheers and panels.

Swap the rug from the living room. have you ever tried the bed on the wall where the chest of drawers is, so you face the windows? put the chest between the tow windows. Do you need bedisde tables? Where do the stairs go to? Was this a living room at one time?

You need a storage solution, if most of the clutter was picked up it would be pretty clean and modern in here. new bed set much larger rug. lots of squares in here try bringing in large round mirro and larger art over the bed. loose the sheers

Waht is going on with the open staircase ? If minimal is the plan then strip everything out except the bed . Then choose wisely for what you NEED . I dislike 2 toned drapery panels always they look like you ran out . I assume that bed in the pic is not staying so please post a pic of the bed.

Thank you all for your great recommendations and questions. @Patricia, I am still shopping for the new bed. We need a Cal King, hubby is 6.'8. So finding a low profile platform bed in Cal King thats under $4K is proving difficult. I will mostly likely buy the Thuma Essential bed ( see pic), even if I wanted a low profile platform bed with integrated nightstands from Modloft (see pic). Also the stairs lead to spacious loft, where we have two offices, my husband's closet and small sitting areas. @RL Relocation, We got rid of the rest of the bedroom set that came with the bed so thats why no storage. If I go with the Thuma bed, I'll get a dresser too. The white ikea dresser in the room came from our kids's room. Its in great consistency Idk where to put it.

There are a lot of beds under 4k in Cal king, not the least of which is Room and Board, USA made........pick your finish, one low delivery price for an order, no matter the size of the order.

Ps....that Mod loft looks like a royal pain in the YOU know what, not to mention a skinned shin.

    Room and Board Anton 2999.00

Room and Board Hudson 2, 999.00

    Saatva.......1422.00

    Whatever........put some color in there : )

I had a similar looking space, and after it was decorated, what still bothered me were the traditional-looking grids on the windows and the spindles on the stair railing. So you might want to think about setting something aside for these more expensive structural improvements that woukd put the finishing touch on your project.

A platform bed without boards that stick out all the way around will not hit your shins as you walk around. Platform beds with sharp corner foot boards are particularly painful. Look at Jan Moyer's suggestions instead.

Corners hanging out are truly...... BLEED beggars : )

Thank you Sheila! We won't do any structural changes to the space because we plan to move in about a year. The townhouses here all look this way and still fetch high $ so not worth it for me. @ Jan thanks and @Celery thanks for all the designs. I don't like all the tan color and mixed with the brown is too much for me. I am not a fan of a lot of brown, but was stuck with a brown bedroom set for 10 years. So I put grey to get away from adding brown on top or if. I would rather brown with lots of white, grey or even black but not tan. Are you picking tan because of the color of my floors? Also about beds, those beds you suggested are similar to the Thuma.,they are not japandi like looking like the Modloft. I like when the base of the bed sticks out more than the mattress

Does the wood of your bed have to match the color of your wood floors? We might move and have grey or dark wood floors- which is what I am seeing in a lot of the newer homes we have been touring.

We have always had platform beds and our last one had a small ledge all around it not once did we hit it. I do agree the one you love could be a huge shin blaster .. Lots of great ideas for a better choice . I thank you for explaining the stairs too. Is this what you are thinking of for style ? Adding plants would be easy as long as they will get the right amount of light

    "

Must have cal king low profile platform bed and green plants."

Nobody would tell you what color to enjoy! they are mock ups, this is the internet, and you provided no inspo pic of this " mid century dream with lots of plants:" ^^

therefore, beyond the shin killing bed you believe you want? You provide more CONTEXT!

Or you hire a designer for the dream space: )

This here is what comes free and we don't KNOW you: ) We can only know what you tell us.

    PS

If you do not like a lot of "Brown" Do an upholstered bed?

Maybe clarify what is "tan" down here? : ) other than a neutral rug?

You are moving in a YEAR? Dear lord don’t buy new furniture now. Wait until you are in your new home.

For now, remove the sheers. Get a second ikea dresser placed by the stairs so you can declutter. Get simple white bedding. Be done with it until you move.

If you do want new, look at Mobican. We purchased the Urbana bed several years ago and love it. Lots of colors and Cal King.

Moving is very hard on furniture so better to wait if possible.

Sadly I cant wait to buy a bed and one dresser. Our mattress is on its last leg, and worsening our bad back, bad hip and shoulder combo. We went mattress shopping all the day yesterday so we have to get a new bed, and since we gave away all our dressers, we have to get a dresser too. Side bar, we moved 10 years ago and with furniture, It was fine!

Kendra! I like the solution for the dresser. So will focus on the bed. Thanks so much

@ Kendra’s …. Exactly, in my experience, moving to a new home often requires different furniture ( sizes, style, etc.) than what one had in a previous home, if things like that matter to you. There are other things to consider apart from damage during the move.

A mattress has not one thing to do with a bed frame!

You can plop a mattress on a hollywood frame any mattress emporium provides

    Any bedroom you go to?

I doubt you change to king or queen?!

Your bedroom already has great potential , the natural light and overall layout give you a solid base to work with. A refresh doesn’t have to mean a complete overhaul; even small updates can create a big impact. Start with the easy wins: declutter surfaces, edit out pieces that don’t serve a purpose, and consider swapping in fresh pillow covers, throws, or layered rugs to add warmth and texture.

Updating window treatments or adding a cozy accent chair can instantly change the vibe of the room without being overwhelming. If you’re ready for a bigger step, think about re-painting in a calming tone, upgrading your lighting with layered options like bedside lamps and dimmers, or introducing a bold piece of art or a statement mirror to anchor the design. The key is to balance comfort with personality , let the space feel inviting, restful, and still reflective of your style. Start small, and build from there; sometimes just shifting one or two elements can make the whole room feel brand new.

Gotcha. Good mattress for your body is of great importance. So separate your thinking - there is a mattress and then there is a bed frame, which can be a simple metal frame or a $3,000 beautiful wood frame.

Find the mattress you love now, that is great for your body, and get it with a simple metal frame from the mattress store. Then after you move into your next home, buy the frame you love that feels right for that space.

When I bought a mattress earlier this year they gave me a free electric adjustable bed frame. They sell them for $200 but throw them in for free to make it feel like you are getting some fantastic deal. You can usually ask them to throw one in. It is completely non offensive. If you want to make it look better for one year, thrown a straight bed skirt around it so you don't see the metal legs, or just leave your sheet untucked so it flows over the frame and you won't see it.

Exactly that!!. As I said way above. A mattress has nothing to do with a bed frame. : )

There is no rush on a bed/ frame. The rush is for your back and mattress, only.
