Please help us choose exterior color.

We would like to repaint our lake home but cannot decide on a color? Any recommendations?
We hope to one day redesign this exterior to have a front door and porch but it’s not in the cards just yet…

Is the roof staying? A new house color needs to work well with it. It looks like a lovely wooded setting. Have you thought about green?

The garage doors appear to jump off the house - whatever house color you choose, paint the garage doors a deeper shade of that color.

Only one set of those shutters is appropriate. Have you considered going shutter-free and instead widening the window trim?

And don’t forget to powerwash the driveway when you’re finished.

Thanks so much! That’s all terrific advice.
We’re actually considering Sherwin Williams retreat or Rosemary for the color. We love green!
I never unthought about widening the trim. If we don’t do that do you suggest only one floor having shutters?
    Thanks so much again!

I like the color the house is, but, like above those garage doors jump right out. They should be the color of the body of the house. I see you do have a side entry. When you are ready to change that, consider, just turning that entry sideways, with the door opening into it from the front side of the house, and it will look like a nice front entry, without tearing a lot of the house apart.

I like blue for lake houses. I'm not sure you need the shutters at all. If you're going to paint, I'd take them down now and see what you think of your house without them. I don't really like the different colored paint around the window over the garage. I'd paint it the same as the body of the house.

As you entrance appears to be on the side, I would not put the tree you have greened in to block it. I'd put a pretty, but low garden in the corner between the driveway and the entrance. We really need to see a pic that shows the entrance and the path to it, it's hard to see at present.

Since you have only one set of shutters that are appropriate (the single-wide window downstairs), I’d get rid of ALL of them. Double windows almost never have shutters and the teeny window downstairs shouldn’t have attention called to it.

I'd paint the garage doors and the shingle area above the garage doors the same color as the body of the house, whatever color you decide. I know grey is not very popular, but I like what you have now. I'd enjoy seeing the darker gray that is now on the shingled area as the color you use everywhere. I love how gardens and greenery pop against a dark house paint color. I don't think your garden will pop as much against a green house.

I notice all the shutters are operational, and would close over the windows. Is there a need for them, where you live?

No need for them. I do plan to remove them and widen the trim.

These are pretty colors for a lake house. I would consider wood garage doors when you have the money. For now, use either a darker or lighter shade of the body color for the garage doors so they don’t scream “Look at me”.

Note how the white trim is used on these houses. Blues first.
