Need help! Decorating this room.

How should I layout and decorate this room? I would like to use a Laura Ashley floral wallpaper and little greene complimentary neutral paint. The fireplace is fake and completely movable. The furniture is moveable. Which walls should be papered? And where should the sofa, TV and computer desk go? Thankyou! (I've changed this question to remove the original part about the gaming desk, so I'll put that somewhere else and it'll just be a desk for homework when required).

Laura Ashley doesn't say game room, to me. The colors you've shown are fine.

Position the largest pieces first, decide where the TV Must be mounted for optimal viewing.

Blinds on the windows, rather than curtains, for a no fuss clean look.

is this a family OR FRIENDS football game watching room? Need more seating.

at least make the TV side of the room a cozy spot to watch TV.

Thankyou, my son wants to game, is happy in the corner! My daughter wants a cosy TV zone. Not sure how to zone off a cosy area in such a big room.

Why not as k the kids Laura Ashley would br my last choice for a gaming room but really no way do therse 2 go together in one space. IMO the gamer does so in their bedroom

Maybe try a complete rearrangement. Is the fireplace is electric so can be moved? If so, how about the fireplace on the blue wall with the TV next to it. Bring the sofa around to face it so that part of the room becomes the viewing area. This sofa could be brought forward so it’s of hard up against the window wall. Looks like some storage is needed, either some ikea units with baskets or maybe a storage ottoman or two, or maybe a cupboard? Probably wouldn’t go the floral you selected. The idea of rattan blinds or even Roman blinds might be better. Gamer station could remain as is. If you went for this sort of arrangement and one or either of the rooms users wanted ‘their’ space, a curtain could be mounted to the beam for temporary division of space.

You won't get help until you draw and measure the space.

If you just moved in, settle the belongings and take pictures with a more cleaned up view.

Get a pad ,pencil, and DRAW the space,

    Use a 25' tape measure

Measure every solid wall, every window, every opening as EACH has a dimension. Note where any openings lead

NO!! : ( to Laura Ashley on the walls. Just no, please ? A floral chair, Floral pillows and floral in art? Fine and dandy. Save floral wallpaper for a bedroom.

What is the rooms function? That will be the biggest determiner of how to furnish and decorate the room.

That’s a fun room to design because you have good flexibility, the fireplace is movable, furniture is mobile, and you’re using a bold Laura Ashley floral along with neutral paint as your palette. First, figure out your primary zones: a TV/relaxation zone, a gaming corner, and perhaps a small work or homework desk. I’d aim to bring them together cohesively rather than making them feel disjointed.

For wallpaper, I’d suggest applying it to the focal wall, probably the wall behind the sofa or the wall the fireplace will sit on, so the pattern becomes a deliberate accent, not overwhelming. Keep the remaining walls in the complementary neutral paint so the eye has a rest and the floral doesn’t fight with everything else.

Then place your sofa facing the focal wall (fireplace/TV) so it anchors the main seating area. The TV can go adjacent or above the fireplace if proportions allow. The computer desk/ homework station should be tucked to the side, maybe behind the sofa’s arm or on a shorter wall so it’s functional but doesn’t dominate. Use rugs, lighting, or a slim console to help define spaces. If needed, use a lightweight partition (floating shelf, sheer curtain, open screen) to subtly zone off the gaming or workstation without closing off the space entirely.
