Need a Statement/"WOW" Chandelier

last modified: 28 days ago

I need your help!! I have been looking for a statement light fixture/chandelier to go above my u-shaped staircase near my entryway. My staircase will look similar to the pic below along with a pic of a light fixture that I am obsessed with, but feel it is too wide and not tall enough.

The width of my staircase is 96” (8’)

The total height from floor to ceiling is 252” (21’)

The height from the floor to the top of the landing is 78” (6.5’), then from the top of the landing to the ceiling is 174” (14.5’).

The dimensions of the light fixture in my pic is Height 26.5", Diameter 52.25”

Any advice or suggestions are greatly appreciated! :)

**UPDATE** It is a new construction house, therefore I do not have pic of the actual staircase. Below are pics of similar staircases. The chandelier will hang above the staircase, not including the foyer. My style is Transitional with a bit of whimsy :). I don't have a set budget -- the lower the better -- would prefer not to go $3,000.

Please upload a couple more photos showing the whole staircase and the current fixture from a couple different vantage points. How big is the current fixture? Does it seem like the right size?

Are you planning to hang it IN the staircase or in the Foyer above the front door?

A better photo of the spot in the ceiling as related to the space. Lovely fixture!!!

For a 52" diameter chandelier to work in a foyer space the room must be pretty large, certainly over 20ft.

The dimensions you supplied don't indicate that to be the case. We don't know if the chandelier is hanging directly over the stairs or in the foyer.

    WOW is subjective!

    Do you have actual pics?

We need to see your staircase and a space next to it to show us your style . Context is everything.

You could try looking at other staircase designs on here to see what chandeliers designers have used in that area as a statement piece. Below are a few of the ones we have used for various clients:

Well the OP has already said she doesn’t have pictures of the staircase because it’s a new build, so getting a picture in

context does not seem possible at this point in time. There are some beautiful examples of staircase chandeliers here

which could work, but at this point I would wait on the chandelier decision until you can actually post pictures of your own staircase and some ideas of your style in furniture, tables, etc.

Floor plans and exterior elevations would be helpful to determine the style of the house and configuration of the stair.

The description "Transitional with a bit of whimsy" includes an igloo.

Here is a transitional staircase with a "wow" factor chandelier according to AI and houzz.

I hope you have budgeted for the furniture....70% transitional and 30% wow.

    Very striking area...

    Post the floor plan

I think the poppy light or Lily light from Arhaus would be wow!!!! you can get a large one and it comes in a gold or black.

If it were me, I would wait until everything is installed - i’d rather live with an electrical coming out of the ceiling than risk making a mistake and deal with costly or tedious returns

Also the staircase chandelier can't be chosen in a vacuum. What other lighting will be in the foyer, hallways and any rooms that open to the staircase? The lighting doesn't have to be all matchy-matchy in a house, but it should complement each other, so you need to come up with a plan.
