I would love to have a navy board and batten wall behind sofa without art. grid type design. is there too much business with rug and fireplace for such a wall? Thanks for opinions.

Art has to be what You like!!

The art piece you favor seems best on the big wall right of the bay window.

Maybe something a bit less bold/ competitive over the fire?

Show us the media cabinet? LOOOOONGER would be better, or you are going to want to clutter up the wall.: ) Eight feet ? : )

    Which built in ?

Do you mean the bookcase at the right of entry from foyer? that is fine there where you have in pics above, ESPECIALLY if tv moves!!

What a joy to watch this all transpire! I'm glad you are able to use so many pieces from within your home and willing to let this evolve over time. I agree that you should take time to find a perfect piece of art for over the fireplace. I'd pay attention to not only how it looks with the stone, but that it is also in a somewhat continuous view along with the dining room wall too.

Do colors matter? Does it matter where they go? How much, and blah blah can the eye behold? It's personal.....to a point : )

    I'm here......

    But I adore my blues!!!

    I loove my rug,....

MAYBE less competition with my fire?

Maybe I don't need so much red?At least not in THIS spot? ( below ) Is It fire fight?

    A bit : )

Everyone's tolerance is different.....but, which lets me enjoy BOTH art and fire?

    Red..............will always ADVANCE.

It's the first color you will see among any other.

This is nice!! I pulled in my GREEN!!

I Still have that love affair with the brighter art?

Yes..... HAVE that ON big wall OVER by the book case!

We can see why those coastal chest weren't cuttin' it?

( Mock has Ballard window mirror. The Pottery barn was making me nuts, sorry!

    HAVE FUN!!!

And here I am again this morning with another thought……I shopped my own home and realized I have another bookcaase identical to the green except painted off white. You know Im obsessed with that long wall…..I admit it….. but what about this arrangement with the other bookcase included. A large piece of art, mirror or TV could go on wall above coastal cabinets. Repaint all 4 pieces. I tried the console table there but did not like the openess underneath the table. If this is too much on the passage wall, I understand. A simple ” don’t do that” will suffice. 😊

The mirrors beside FP are coming down.

    Here's the deal.

I'd be a liar if I said you could JUST use some bucks and that the rooms we drool on usually do need some money

Limit the RED. It will scream, it is IN the rug. You can do the art you love over by the green cabinet on that dead wall.!

Calm DOWN THE ART OVER THE FIRE.?

For just that reason. You don't want the fight.

Blend a bit...just examples here, they have no red because it ruins the fire.

Yes you can certainly have BLUE on the chairs! You should, as the green is a secondary color here due to your rug,, and the red? Way LESS THAN THE GREEN! Love red elsewhere.

Your bugaoo making you crazy wall!

You can do this down here for 1500.00!

It is more than enough statement

Put art on any smart tv! Tons on you tube or Etsy

Make it a favorite family photo if you want!

    So!

Were you my client? I say you need......

Art over fire ........350.00 ( great Big Cnvas /wFRAME

The fire wall BOTH left and right: 1150.00 ALL

The drive you crazy 17" wall: 1500.00

    Two Deep blue chairs: 900.00

Give yourself 500.00 for pillow. throws. etc access.

and the art YOU love near the green book case? 300?

    Add it up...call it 5K

And then get wild and say bye bye to the grand ma end table with

    Pottery Barn 400.00

Because it is right size everything.

    LOl.......

I shall wait for the crowd to scream. No.......it is NOT even close to a lot of money. ...It's what would make you 100% thrilled with your room.

Even just ONE blue chair?) Okay...pays for the PB end table lol

    And there you GO!!!

Up the road console behind couch? "Crosby" 679.00

In the meantime? Maybe throw some paint on the oldie? Just do a soft black, accessorize it.: )

Yes to something calmer over fire.

When you have TWO "dictators" in a single view of rug and fire, try not to add another, right?

Bookcase is 30” x 76” x 16”. FYI I can use a paint brush as well as a tape measure, if need be.

Okay....... hang on, while I back up, get the other comments all considered as well, since many of us ...were clearly!!! trying to figure out a penchant for which of these? Green...or deep blues?

Watch...and ask, is my rug love affair making me fight what I love most?

I've no idea: ) But see your own adds to the thread, such as that screen shot of a green comfy chair?

A little brighter and greeeeeener below...

    Calmer, earthier...a little organic

See your cabinet book case in the mix down here?It was a "just because idea" and then you painted the other white, or it WAS white, and you made it green? ms.handy gal?! lol

You realize......that if they are BOTH green, you could slide them in left and right of the damn FIRE??????!!!!!

But...before you do that? What is the real love affair here? The rug..dictating LESS green by a lot, or you find a different home for the rug? which MIGHT be freeing? All of our very inquiring minds would love to know!

You are so right. I feel like I’m in therapy. My rug must go. I love the earthy, organic feel of the greens but fight it because I’ve been partial to blue all of my life.. I also love texture, which has always been the reason I love the FP chairs.
I originally bought the bookcases to go beside the FP and they fit but looked straight up, if that makes sense. Now that I have a different mindset, I can try them again. Thank you.

You can also go to a good broadloom store, look at the wools, the wool and nylon blends, You can take any 12" wide broadloom, and have it cut and bound to the inch. Geoffrey Hirst is quite well priced. Antrim has wonderful selections , more money.

At 11' ' by even 2o' ? Very little waste of the goods would result. Won't be possible at a Home Depot or similar. A good carpet independent source the designers use: )

This might be called "keys to the Vegas Casino..."

From all above, instructive screen shots earlier post.

    You own everything Else.

Now.......Stand at the fire facing foyer

You paint the low white cabinets- they go on the 6'wall left of opening, butted together. Take the "window mirror, paint it a shade of watery blue..hang vertically and NOT up near the damn ceiling!

Back to the love affair picture?

On the 89" wall, facing /right of the Bay window!

Right of the opening?......NOT AT THE CEILING, EITHER

You know what to do with the BIG dead tv wall........

Is it worth it to get rid of the Grandma end table for P.B Tanner/ For corner of sofas? YES. Are the lamps worth it..absolutely.!!100% for texture, neutrality....yes 2

You paint the tall green cabinets... for left/right of fire, and don't clutter the hell out of them: )

IT'S A NEW ROOM all above, and hate to tell ya, Gram....but it's time!! It eventually becomes hard to keep cobbling leftovers/mistakes together to any cohesive whole.

Shake out a few moths if at all possible and it's done.!

Does this happen as above on any other site? No.

It definitely does not: ) and it was the epitome of

"E.d. i.t then Add"- as it began at the start of your thread.

It has happened here because the thread of contributors narrowed to only a few "voices", versus a four - ten year dialogue of Houzz insanity. Something that often occurs with ten , fifteen or more folks following closely, and all with a different vision.. It is VERY, very well intended ! It becomes a club! But, it can get very confusing and does a room need four years? Rarely.

This scenario was far more as if you went one on one with a designer in your home. Except for the moolah.: )

Good luck, and now it is on you....and DH

    Keep us posted!!

    More "fun": )

    What gets what color PAINT?

( note, all below is called avoidance of real work here at the still dark hour.... .........)

    Truth told?

You love two colors almost equally...blue, and green....

Does it matter the what/what of the paint? Yeah! Don't make double work in oy vey "shoulda woulda coulda!".

What did I do up there?

    Changed the art

Changed your bookcases to soft black! Then I'd be inclined to either a great blue, OR green on those low cabinets that are now screaming white.

I added LIGHT cushions on your two chairs, also back cushions, a super easy thing to do.

Pulled the chairs forward, added a big pouf.

    And ?

It's nice to have a change of landscape with the seasons ( waiting for you to tell me you're at temple as you read this.)

Pretty darn easy to haul out a book case!

I'd definitely hang around here, but I am not you.

All above is what is commonly caused in design lingo to ANY client, " no, I can't simply say JUST do this!.....because tweaks are moving pieces. It's alllll moving pieces/ moving colors, /changing textures on a chess board."

Your board, not mine, right?: )

My insides draw up into a knot as I prepare to say this but…….I can’t pull the trigger on that jute rug. I want and need softness…….coziness…….that I think are lacking in jute. The colors in my current rug are so beautiful. Jewel tones, I think. The pic I posted doesn’t do it justice but the blues (both dark blue and a light blue) plus the brick, peach and, yes, even a touch of green, are all there. I actually like the idea of painting the bookcases black and the screaming white cabinets a color. I am fully aware that the rug is holding me up but when I think of giving it up……😩. I can give up the chairs for upholstered ones……no problem. So, give me time, doc, maybe there is another rug somewhere, a solid wool that won’t shed like a dog, that will speak to me. I’m looking . And, no, Im not in temple. A Baptist. Hutch tomorrow. 😊

The real points are just three. It matters not what I think, or anyone thinks. If you love the fire/and the rug as is? You do you. Everyone has their own personal tolerance for pattern!Lots..or less: ) It is your home, not mine, not ours. Only yours.

Third truth? You don't want to change the rug. At all. A"solid wool" will essentially be the SAME sort of change as the jute,, just a change in fiber.

Way less fight, your rug below.

Two STARS on the stage, don't make it three stars with art: )

The "peach" is in the stone... and plenty.

I’ve been moving things around to get an idea of exactly what I want to do. I butted the 2 coastal cabinets together and can get a third one need be.
