Help with ideas decorating living room wall

last month

Looking for ideas for the 20-foot-long TV wall to elevate this room while keeping it modern, warm, and cohesive with the existing furniture and rug. The first is what we have and the second is a suggestion by an AI tool.

We definitely want to get rid of the current TV console and replace it with a more modern looking one. So wondering if we should consider a smaller TV console, suggested in the second picture or consider a larger wall unit

Can you pull furniture onto rug a bit? I think it will look cozier. For that wall I wouldn’t do a ton of art personally. I would get a big plant for one side and then maybe one art piece

Good points, thanks. By the way, our current TV is about 60" and we plan to replace it with a larger one, so that will fill the wall a bit more.

I’m curios as to why there’s no coffee table?

Agreed! A coffee table would also change the space in a positive way.

If you are planning a larger TV, you will want a longer console, not smaller. I would probably start there, then consider what else the wall needs.

Tape out on your wall the size of your new TV then post pics so we can see what you are actually dealing with size wise.

Do you need storage from a console? Are you open to other suggestions without storage?

The AI version is not a good one, in my opinion. They just covered the wall with pictures like a 5 year old would.

Thanks all. Regarding the coffee table, we had a consultation with a designer many years ago, who suggested us not to put a coffee table, as it would be restrictive. We have side tables along the sofa that we use as coffee tables when needed.

The larger TV would be roughly 8-10 inches larger along the width and 4 to 5 inches larger on the height. On a 20 foot wall, the difference would be negligible.

And we don't need any storage in the TV console besides a cable box and DVD player.

Agree with the above comments - pull the two chairs onto the rug. Maybe put a plant or something else in the corners of the fireplace wall. Coffee table(s) would help. I don’t see any ambient lighting - no lamps in this room? Only overhead? Could you pull up the sofa and add a narrow console table behind it with lamp(s)? Or a side table with lamp next to sofa?

That change in tv is substantial. You will want a longer console for sure or it will look off. It will absolutely look better with a coffee table

Thanks. The room is 14 ft wide, so we don't have the room to pull up the sofa. I will consider your suggestion about the lamps. The room is quite bright with large windows and 2 large skylights. And the recessed lights provided enough light, but I will consider your suggestion

I wouldn't dwell on the length of the wall right now. You are already using up part of it with the fireplace, chairs, etc. What is on the 4th side we can't see-is that a dining chair or bar stool on the right?

Thanks. We have an open floor plan with the kitchen, breakfast area on the other side, roughly 22 x 14. Here's the picture

I still feel get the TV/console first. Pretty space-lovely floors! And I agree with adding a lamp for ambient lighting.

While there is more open space in the room without a coffee table, it looks unfinished without one. Do you need all of that open space on the area rug for some specific need?

I like that wall color. I lke the open floor in the narrow room. Opens it up.

BeverlyFLADeziner, thanks for creating the mock-up. I really liked it and it puts things in perspective

When you replace your TV I would consider buying a Samsung Frame TV.That‘s what we did, rotating ”art” instead of having a big black hole . We also otdered, separately, a teak frame for it.

I like Beverly suggestion. I would go with the same color for a wall.
