Christmas 2025 edition!!

last month

Let the Holidays begin! Been starting my “inspirations” and additions to existing Christmas and holiday decor. I decided to post this a bit early thus year to sound a little warning that getting deliveries, especially “imports” has been VERY slow. So be fair warned. I am posting my 2024 main Christmas tree. The close up is my inspiration picture to add to my blues, silvers, and champagne palette fir a fresh look. I am adding velvet light blue ribbon with interesting plaid ribbon if i can find what i want. So here’s to a wonderful holiday season however you celebrate!

Kathleen, they’re so many pretty ways to use them. They’re so feather light and flexible to fit wherever you want them. I like to “spiral” them around poinsettias outside our front door for Christmas.

My Fall decorations will remain up until Thanksgiving but something "Christmas-related" popped up in my email today and I thought you might enjoy it. It was a Facebook memory from something that I posted in 2022.

When we grew up my folks put tinsel on the Christmas tree, and no throwing it on - each piece, one by one. So when I got married in 1968, that's the way I put the tinsel on our little Christmas tree. When Christmas was over, I took down the tinsel, one by one, and put it on a sheet of newspaper that then got folded up for storage until the following year. I haven't put tinsel on the tree in years and years but I discovered in 2022 that I still had that folded piece of newspaper with the old Christmas tinsel down at the bottom of the Christmas decorations box. When I unfolded the newspaper I had to laugh. Look at the ad for a new car! As the song goes, "Those were the days, my friends..."

Oh my! Such a great story!! And look at that price!

Hahahaha! The price is great but calling a two-door bug a sedan is hilarious!

That ridiculousness aside, I drove a bug for many years. They worked perfectly with no problems ever.

Oh, Aphaea! I was allowed to begin dating when I turned 16 and a junior in high school. I was asked to the prom in the Spring by a guy whose best friend owned a VW Beetle and we would double date. That year hoops were popular under big prom gown skirts (honest!) and I can still laugh at the memory of my date trying to help me get into the back seat of the car with the hoop under my skirt. Those cars had the tiniest back seats and it was a struggle.

I apologize that this isn't a Christmas memory but seeing the photo of that blue-gray bug brought the whole crazy thing back to me - and the friend's car was a blue-gray bug as well. 🚙 Hadn't thought of that silly memory in a long time, but it was a fun one, so thanks for posting the picture!

Wow… my mother had a VW bug just about the same era. I remember there was something weird about the gas tank it was in two parts or something and you had to turn a lever to get the tanks switched over? Great seeing the photograph. I remember getting rides in that car!

    All about fun memories!!

Before we could drive there were two guys in our round of friends that had two identical green slug bugs 🤪 we would always ride around with them, so fun! I remember one time ha ha, we skipped school and living near the Appalachia chain of mountains we were going to go “caving” as we called it. There was a huge puddle almost small pond up on the road/trail. Of course we didn’t want to hike it so one of the guys said we could drive across! Well we all got back in the car, like yea about six of us. He backed up as far as he could go and floored that little VW bug. We hit the puddle and by golly floated across to the other side 😂 i think I remember some rode on top? I do remember, and I may have told this tid before, but I had a big pouch built into the back of my coat. Well, the bag of chips we put in there and we had to crawl in tight spaces and everybody got upset with me bc the chips were all smooshed 😝 good times!!! Oh I have so many memories of those days. I wanted one from then on but never got one. Test drove a new one, but really didn’t fit the bill. One day one day. I’de settle for the van as well! The grands would get a kick out of those two.

"Those were the days, my friends..."

@jayapple21, my very first car was a brand new yellow VW bug. I think with tax and license the full price was about $2,200. Crazy! I loved that little car. All I have left to remember it is the little replica in the attached photo. Also, my grandmother did the exact same thing with tinsel. One piece on the tree at a time and same for taking it off. Pretty sure she used tissue paper to wrap it. She also didn’t start decorating the tree until Christmas Eve. Not sure why she didn’t do it sooner to enjoy!🤷‍♀️

My parents didn't decorate anything until Christmas Eve, either. "Santa" came and did the decorating. Lordy, they must have been exhausted on Christmas morning!

Alice, I grew up in 'snow country' and my house was at the top of a hill. I remember one time the guys, driving the VW bug, must have hit an icy spot and the car veered into a snow bank. They got out and managed to lift it enough to get it back onto the street. Crazy teenagers.

And Chloebud, the first time I ever met my son-in-law was when he pulled into my driveway in an old VW bug (ugly shade of yellow/green) and got out of the car barefoot. I kept my reaction to myself and years later he became a member of the family. That was his first car. Last year, somewhere online, I saw this little metal VW bug (yellow) Christmas ornament. I knew SIL would enjoy the memory so I bought it and had to laugh when it arrived. It was actually 1.5 inches long. Probably the smallest ornament on the tree. But I gave it to him anyway and he just laughed when he saw it.

Oh, jayapple, thanks! I might just have to get the ornament!!! Such a cute story about your SIL…and the bug in the snow bank!

I remember having a piece of cardboard that the tinsel had to be strung over before it got wrapped and put away. And of course, no globs on the tree ever allowed. 🤣

My parents also put the tinsel on the tree one strand at a time. My mom spent her afternoons trimming the tree. I remember one year our tree was so tall, my
dad had to make two trips to the hardware store for lights and tinsel! Because it was dark at night, and he walked to the store, I worried about him the whole
    he made the trips.

Julie, I love the bow. Last year I opted for a small tree for the living room. The tree topper was a bow with long tails. Small bow but the tree was small.🎄
