First, I wanted to ask if anyone could recommend a brand of silicone caulk?

We are in the midst of a DIY kitchen remodel. We have kept the same layout, with a few tweaks and plan to re-use the granite. We have successfully removed the granite with no cracking and the upper cabinets are hung. We ran into a snafu and will need to lower the base cabinets by 1/4". To get the countertop height back to its former height, we are going to put 3/8" Baltic Birch plywood on top of the cabinets and then the granite on top of the plywood.

I want to avoid using tons of silicone because we might want to change out the countertops sometime in the future and I have seen where removing a countertop can take chunks of the cabinet out along with the silicone.

Here are my plans. (I appreciate any input offered):

• Run a line of oil-based primer on the tops of the cabinets with the idea that the primer would stick to the cabinet and hold things together under the duress of trying to remove silicone caulking sometime in the future if we replace the countertop.
• Prime the plywood with oil based primer and then paint
• attach the plywood to the cabinets, using a tiny screw, screwed into the corners of the face frames in the front and a dollop of silicone at the back corners. Screws to be sunk into the plywood so they do not protrude.
• Check for leveling and place shims as needed at the corner of the cabinets, attaching with silicone.
• Use silicone caulk on top of plywood/ shims at corners of every cabinet and every 6" or so on the plywood perimeter. Apply granite top over the silicone caulked plywood/ shims.

So that is my plan. Please let me know if I have overlooked any factors or if I should change up my plan. I would appreciate any input. :)
