window shade HELP ME!

Help! I want to replace these (inoperable) curtains and top down bottom up cellular shades with something. I could just get new cellular shades, but the windows are SO shallow, an inch to mount and like 1.5 inch total, so it seems like all the “new” cordless options will stick out at least a bi, which I do t like. And even the higher end head rails look big and ugly to me. That got me thinking about outside mount Romans… (inside would stick out of the frame a bunch). Outside could have a curtainy feel, a little nicer than cellular. But I can’t see how the top down would work well? I don’t know… any advice or totally different suggestions are SO appreciated. Thank you!

you could do cellular with this faux valance to finish the look.

I love Roman shades, but if you want some light from the top of the window and privacy at the bottom explore louvered shutters at about 2/3 the height. When fully opened they should be hinged so they open against the wall on either side of window.

I too lived in an older home with nearly non-existant depth. I can't stand roman shades. Just not my thing. So I got roller shades. Yep, good old fashioned roller shades. (They were custom made and nice looking.) They were one of the only things that fit. We raised and lowered them throughout the day. I loved them.

For curtains - have you tried 4 panels with 2 rods that do not stretch across the windows. That current rod is quite heavy.

The windows are too close together, yet far enough apart, that you need to treat them separately.

What is outside that requires top DOWN?

I''d use an outside mount, natural woven shade, much lighter rod......
