Kitchen help appreciated

last month

Hi, I am looking to update counter, island, sink, and floors - but also open to other ideas. I am
Keeping the cabinets though. I could really use
Some advice For the flooring -

Would it be ok if I did tile that looks like wood even though it doesn’t match?
Would it be better at a different angle to its obvious that it doesn’t match?

Should I use a different material

For the island than the counter?

I would love any and all ideas - thank you!

Do NOT install faux wood tiles - especially next to real wood.

Personally, I would extend your wood floors through the kitchen. Having one floor throughout will look better. Plus, it should be easy for your contractor to match the grade of the wood + width. There are talented floor refinishers who are able to get a very close match to your current floors (if you don't want to refinish those and stain them with the new boards in the kitchen).

It would better if you could refinish the existing floors as part of your project - then you could select a stain that complements your cabinets instead of having the floors and cabinets' stains match so closely.

    I agree - thank you!

Do not go for a faux wood near match. It will look bad. Do as @dani_m08 suggested.

I'd use the same material for all counters simply because your countertop space on the perimeter is so minimal it might look accidental to have so little of it in the room.

An you post a view of the room that is on the other side of the peninsula? Visually, your kitchen is part of that room and your countertop selection should take into consideration what is in the other room.

Your kitchen is painted a different color than the open concept room it is a part of. Do you intend to change the kitchen color?

I wouldn't continue the wood into the kitchen even if you could match it closely. A change of materials to designate the spaces is more interesting.

Example: White oak floors (dining room) adjacent to Ergon concrete-look tile (hallway).

We’d be able to help you more if you posted a layout diagram with measurements.

Your cabinets don’t look like they’re in great shape. Maybe it’s just the hinges, but some of those cabinet doors don’t seem to close. Consider a thorough cleaning and new hinges where you need them.

Your peninsula is basically a table because it has no storage. Perhaps consider putting in some 15” deep cabinets with drawers on the kitchen side, space permitting.

Unless you love the current layout, I wouldn’t do expensive updates such as flooring and counters. I’d declutter the heck out of it, put down a washable rug and start saving up for a larger renovation down the road.
I agree that the wood floors should continue into the kitchen.
