Crocus sativus is a fall blooming bulb so you are probably out of luck for harvesting this year. However, the bulbs are often available now or when most fall planted bulbs are sold.

Be sure to plant a lot. Each corm/bulb produces a single flower with only 3 stamens. And like other crocus, they are beloved by squirrels, chipmunks, voles and other ground dwelling critters.

I've tried, to no avail... once I had this idea I could grow them in a container and bring them in for a fall bloom, at least I got green shoots :) But my climate is all wrong, chilly, rainy, snowy falls. it was just an expensive lark, dreamer thing to do.

I looked up Tacoma's winter temps. It looks to me as if you should leave the crocuses outside. Use chicken wire caps over the pots to deter the squirrels.

Saffron is planted in a pot, outside, and with chicken wire cage to keep the corms from becoming a squirrel snack. Thank you for the great advice!

Pot is in the ground, will move the corms into the ground once final placement is determined.
