is the ceiling height a problem?

lot s of things to do with tall ceilings, add beams, paint the ceiling a darker color to bring it down, add cabinets, taller artwork, window coverings above the actual window trim, add hanging light fixture(s).

Thanks we dont want uppers - we refid it withour them because the old kitchen had 42 inch upper csbinets which looked too small wed loje to add a backsplash the kitchen is part of a great room so beams arent an option

I have no idea what your question is exactly. I love art in kitchens and no uppers too but the mirror not so much. I think you want a backsplash I would do one that really just is there to protect the wall so really simple and match the counters. I never like lighting above an island thatlights the ceiling so anew light and not rattan IMO .Please take that clock off the wall it just does no belong. I do not like runners in kitchen they are tripping hazards IMHO. I would love to see some color in the space with maybe another piece of art and a fab island light fixture maybe even some colored stools . No fake beams either they always look fake to me.

Since you didn’t ask a specific question, I’m just going to critique.

First thing to do is take the mirror away. And the light fixture above it should be brought down, maybe even with the top of the window over the sink. The art, while lovely, is too high and too close to the sink. I’d worry about splashing. Lower that light too.

The runner rugs are fighting with the gray floor. That is an unfortunate choice for flooring - is it new? The floor also fights with the wall color and the window blind and the pendant light and the counter stools and maybe the counter top (which I can’t see well). Mentioning counter stools - they can’t be comfortable to sit on because there’s no place for your legs. A person has to sit sideways at the counter.

Don’t worry about decorating wall space way up over your head.

You have a very spacious and airy kitchen!(Trying not to drool).
So far advisors have some ideas to enhance the ambiance.
First,rearrange the counter seating..
Change the island light.
Move the mirror elsewhere,put a sturdy wipeable art piece there .
Why is micro so far from fridge?
Despite micro and range having clocks I do like a wall clock in a kitchen as I can see it from a distance.
Consider a larger runner by the fridge and a larger area rug by the island .
Make sure they are both more colorful and have a non slip underlay.
These few tweaks will not only gladden the eye but also increase ease of function.
Do not be discouraged by suggestions of viewers.
Do try out the hints in stages,see how you feel after each change...it is your space!

Are you thinking of changing the countertop? I’m not sure why you’re asking about a backsplash.
I definitely agree that the fixture over the island would look better if it were linear.

I would not add a standard backsplash with the resulting 18" horizontal line cutting your space.

Go with a 2" or 3" backsplash made out of the same quartz as your countertops. You just need a small lip to contain any spills.

Do a stainless panel behind your gas cooktop.

The rest of your walls will be fine as long as you have cleanable matte or eggshell paint. Even if it is flat, you can always do a deep clean every 6 months and touch up with more flat paint.

Or, you could use the contours in the wall and the height of your mirror and artwork to help guide a more organic choice.

You seem to love neutrals, so choose something that fits in well with your existing palette and harmonizes with your wall color. You don’t have to choose oversized tile, but don’t choose small tiles either. This is Fireclay Tile in Sand Dune and it is available in larger sizes and in specialty shapes. I think a paseo shape might be really beautiful in the space without stealing your eye from your counter tops and art.

Another good option could be a textured or fluted tile like this one from Tile Bar. It’s beautiful, a little different, but again, it’s not an eye grabber. It will harmonize well with your existing surfaces and artwork.
