Rug size/colour/texture recommendations

Hi guys! Please help me find a nice rug that suits my living room interior. The armchair makes things a bit tricky, but I really love it. The room isn’t decorated yet, but I’m expecting a vintage silver floor lamp and lots of plants. Additionally, I'm considering hanging this mirror (it is pinkish). Thank you so much!

    Do this in the room.

There are so many different rugs out there. You could easily go with a neutral colored rug, or a rug that has some of the colors from the chair in it. Below are a few different designs of ours with rugs ideas for you.

@BeverlyFLADeziner Thanks! I’ll try it first thing tomorrow morning and share it here.

As for rugs, you need a touch of the color in the chair. Just some ideas for you.

@RedRyder Thank you! So it should be light, not dark?

I would lean towards lighter. The furniture pieces are dark enough.

I don't think the two sofas are doing you any favors in the overall appearance of the room. You don't want your guests to feel that barrier at the entrance a sofa creates. That's why two chairs are preferable. You don't currently have any style for the room so a patterned rug could go a long way to setting a style for you.

A rug can set a contemporary tone.

Or a rug can set a more traditional tone for the room.

Do you own this home or rent? I ask becuase those goofy shelves along that wall are horrible. If you mean that hulk of a orange "chair" sorry it can't fit in thta space where it is . We need a to scale floor plan for sure . Mirrors are best hung where they reflect something worth seeing twice . Is the sofa staying ? I like the lamp. I needd info and some idea of the size of the space and that chair for sure

Is the TV staying as is? Removing the shelves will allow you to mount on the wall.

@Patricia Colwell Consulting Thank you! I’m renting, so the shelves have to stay (they’re mounted into the wall for good). I’d also like to keep the couch and the armchair. Here’s the only plan I have — the left side is occupied by the dining table.

@Valinta Thank you! I’m renting, so the shelves have to stay — they’re mounted into the wall for good. The TV stand is another pain in the butt; there wasn’t even supposed to be a TV in the living room, but my husband brought it home while I was out of town.

I think you're going to want to get the TV up off the floor. Looks like you have about 12" or so to work with.

There will likely always be a option from IKEA if you take a look at the BESTA group and put a few pieces together.

Another option could be a linear media cabinet designed to be wall mounted. It could simply sit on the floor.

@BeverlyFLADeziner Yep, I have 15". Do you think the version with the couch in front of the wall is better? It feels good for me now that I can look out the window, not at the TV:) Thank you!

So a rug will help anchor your space. A tall tree, live or faux, will always add texture and life to a space. Get that TV off the floor in some fashion.

Add some drum tables and a coffee table to entertain and you're on your way to creating a room to live in.

You're welcome. You just need a plan to your goal.

This doesn't look like an apartment in the US, except maybe NYC so I have no idea of sources for items.

You can try out lots of rugs on sites that have that Visualizer Feature. Not sure if you can get by with an 8x10 or if a 9x 12 is better. Each rug will set you in a slightly different direction on style and decor.

@BeverlyFLADeziner Yes, I recently moved to Portugal. That geometrical design is stunning! I’m trying to find something similar. Thank you again!
