That's a great way to organize and store - and I notice the rubber bands! Sometimes twist ties just aren't long enough.

Nice. I have all my extension cords in a wastebasket in the basement. it seems no matter what organization program i start, it doesn’t last long.

DLM, the rubber bands may dry out and break, but by then I will have moved on to another method lol.

There used to be an organizing forum on GardenWeb. One of the best pieces of advice I read was to make things easy to put away. If you want/need whatever it is, you’ll put in the required effort to retrieve it, but you won’t put in an equal amount of effort to put it away.

Love your cord organizer @bpath. All of my extension cords, surge protectors, and the like are in a milk crate on a shelf in the garage (Fits the ”easy to put away” requirement, and isn’t very hard to retrieve either).

Something has to be easy to put away, but also easy to retrieve. These were all in a plastic basket but I couldn’t see them very well. Oh and most of my extension cords have their length sharpied somewhere inconspicuous but visible to me.

My favorite tip from this group is for holiday lights: Loop into a circle and store each circle in a one-gallon ziplock. No tangling, easy to retrieve and put away.

This thread reminds me, there is a box of cords for various electronics in the attic. It has been there, untouched IIRC, for 11.5 years. I think I can safely pitch it!

Oh, no you don’t! Murphy’s Law dictates that as soon as you do, you will need one! Yes, DH has the same box.

I live in a high rise with an electronic recycling waste cage in the basement. It is a delight to hop on the elevator and have a place to dump an old cell phone or broken monitor. So satifying to get rid of these kinds of things!

I like your idea a lot! At one time i had several extension cords organized in a storage cube inside a cabinet. The cube had 4 drawers and they were in one of the drawers. DH was looking for an extension cord one day and i told him where to look. Not long after that all my extension cords were gone. That’s what happens around here. 🤦🏻‍♀️

I have a plastic ziploc bag with orphan charger cords in the attic that has been there for many years. It’s time. Now I use our label maker to label every single cord that enters the house.

Oh Bpath! that happens to be DH’s excellent penmanship on a folded yellow post-it. His handwriting is far superior to mine.
