staircase wall ideas

last month

Not sure what to do with this wall. Wall Lights? Art? Other things? You guys are really creative and would love to get some visual ideas. It's an open floor plan. Thank you!

Art. You just need to figure out the right scale and quantity for your space. Use poster board in different sizes and stick them up on the wall with blue tape.

Yes ^ agree with @chispa trying some placement, but I also would remove the Mirror above the buffet and hang a Very tall piece of art. as tall as the window trim.

for the staircase, stand on each step separately and measure off the tread to eye level and tape a piece of paper, do the same up the stairs and see if it is pleasing to you (actually, google art placement on stairway, for a better description, lol)

that upper rail wall could use some inspiration too. interesting trim on the doorway.

Is the dining table and buffet the only furniture in that elevated room?

If there is a hallway with a wall at the top I could see 3 large paintings spanning that wall. I'd then leave the other wall alone.

Not disagreeing with Kendrah at all, but wondering if you tied in the stair wall into the dining room wall (removing the mirror) and did one large gallery? I like the skinny frames and the brown art (color of floors and furniture). Keep the lamps with the black shades and maybe nothing else on top of buffet. Not sure, but I'm wondering if this collage is prints with no glass.

Etsy has lots of mega amount of prints you can download to quality paper. This particular seller has 25 prints. You frame in black.

I don't think a gallery wall that continues into the dining room works because of the height differential, and the door that separates the space. I also (personally) think gallery walls tend to look too busy and are really hard to get right unless you are a pro/have an eye for that.

I would also remove the mirror because looking at yourself while you eat is very unnerving. I would get a large piece of art for the mirror spot, and then 2-3 large vertically oriented pieces for the staircase.

@anj_p, So I take it you don't like my suggestion and evidently feel my comment needs to be critiqued by you.

So, what is your suggestion? Because I don't see one and the OP is looking for some ideas.

Sorry Judy. Everyone can have an opinion and I was giving mine. Wasn't critiquing you at all just didn't agree with your opinion. That's kind of how this site works.

If you read my whole comment you would've seen that I suggested she get large art.

I would cover the whole wall/walls? in something like this...www.papierwallpaper.com/en-us/products/yesterdays-wallpaper-putty

I find the black of the handrails and the newel posts quite jarring. No need to call attention to those features. The black also seems to have nothing to relate to in the rest of the space. I’d paint them white to match the rails.

I dislike gallery walls but if you love them then do one but well done. I like large pieces of art much better so that would be my choice . That long wall at the top of the stairs could handle a family picture wall all the same frames hung at eye level to the center of the frame . The wall at the top of the first landing is crying for a large piece of art . I have to agree about the black on the stair case it high lights some bad issues wiht that staircase so maybe white to just let it be simple . Is that a mirror in the DR if so a nice piece of art there too unless that mirror reflects something awesome needing to be seen twice , I never like mirrors in DRS no one wants to see themselves eating it is just not pretty.

Agree with Patricia. Larger pieces for a gallery wall is our preference as well especially if you have the space to do so.

Thanks everyone for your input. I prefer large pieces but I'm having a hard time trying to figure your what looks good there. 2 or 3 vertical large pieces? Also what would go with the art I have now on the other wall? I moved one of them down to see how it looks, but left the other art high. Should I stagger that other wall with the large pieces or keep them same level like before but lower?

I would centre the two pictures you already have on wall - the wall starting where the upper part meets the upper hallway and the corner near the windows. I think the pictures would look better lined up and a bit lower.

ExpoBaby, I didn't quite understand what you meant. You mean bring the art on the right down to line up with the other lower art piece? So line them up next to eachother?

Yes Sue and perhaps centre in room too. They look close to one side

Yes, Line them up. Is it possible to see a picture of that whole wall?

Yes here is the whole wall.

I would centre the two pictures on the light and table. Line them up so they are even.
