wolf steam oven + double ovens overkill?

last month

We are renovating kitchen and I decided on a wolf steam oven. Now the debate is should we get a single wolf m series electric oven or double oven. Family of 5, but kids are teenagers so in about 4 years we’ll be almost empty nesters except family gatherings and holidays. We do love to cook and entertain. Will we miss having 2 regular ovens in addition to the steam oven or is that overkill?? If we won’t miss will appreciate having the cabinet storage.

Maybe the solution would be to purchase a double-oven that includes the steam feature such as the Dacor DOB30T977DS and Thermador MEDS302BS. The SKS SKSCV3002S has microwave/convection in the upper oven, and convection with steam in the lower oven.

Thanks, but we’ve already purchased the wolf which was a great deal

So just deciding on the regular oven

2 steam ovens definitely would be overkill

Many people with combi-steam ovens use it almost exclusively. It's that much better than a standard oven.

It may be overkill, but it’s not like the overkill monitor is gonna take away your birthday. Steam ovens don’t have a very large capacity. I say, go for the double ovens.

I think my 24" Miele CSO XXL has excellent capacity and in hindsight I should have done 3 ovens in that size. Perfect for entertaining when you have several dishes that need the oven at different temps. Instead I have one and my other oven is in the 36" range, which is great if you regularly cook huge turkeys, but oversized for most everything else. Someone else probably loves their 36" oven!

How about 4 steam ovens? You could open a little French bistro! 👩‍🍳

one wall oven, and a warming drawer. Mostly use the steam oven but expect to use the wall oven for holidays and other big entertaining. As other said, you’ll need to think about how you cook. Someone here on Houzz gave advice once which was - design for the 80%, not the 20%. So will you need 3 ovens concurrently most of the time?

My comment should have started with - we have a 30” wolf steam oven and we love it. And one wall oven and a warming drawer.

I know many here like their warming drawers. When we bought our previous house it came with a warming drawer. We barely used it, so we skipped it when we remodeled that kitchen and never missed it. It really comes down to personal preferences!

I store dog treats in my warming drawer! I’ve never turned it on since. Bought it in 2003…waste of money.

So I think we decided. Will be designing for a Wolf steam oven unplumbed (less to engineer and worry about long term) + 1 Wolf Oven (experts at subzero wolf convinced me that the 2x ovens would be overkill and not worth the cost) + warming drawer (we like to ebtertain and this will allow us to keep rolls warm or pies warm at the holidays, etc). Since we are at the start of our reno, I’ll let everyone 9-12 months from now if we have any regrets & lessons learned.

This is exactly what we have!

@chispa - where was the warming drawer located? Location is key as to whether a warming drawer is used.

I miss the warming drawer from our previous house's Kitchen. I could figure out a place to put one in the new house's Kitchen when we did a partial remodel. Oh well.
