I really want a wide dresser here but most are 60" -- that is too wide. I currently have the tall birds eye maple in the spot but I think it looks odd.

Fourth thought - I personally don't care for a lot of furniture in a bedroom, ideally no dressers. I think it is more calming to just have a bed, nightstands, maybe a chair

Since you live alone, do you have a spare bedroom to make a dressing room? Id love these peices in a dressing room with nice plush borne in the middle!

I like them including the wood tone but I like stained wood finishes. I think if you don't like the wood tone you may want to keep looking for something you like better. It doesn't sound like you have an urgent need for the new furnishings and could take your time.

Mtn, yes--I use a larger room as a dressing room... and i have a smaller third that I have to admit is unorganized storage but soon to be an office.

Interesting that you mentioned removing the dresser-- I was just thinking about moving both the dresser and the hamper to the dressing room earlier this week. I love the idea of a chair or even a small loveseat. It would totally shift the vibe to a more relaxing space. I like it!

I really think you should. Dressers in bedrooms also tend to get cluttred top surfaces. Not conducive to sleep. Or people bring the laundry basket in to load the dresser... and it stays.

It's a luxury, yes, but I vastly prefer BR with no visible storage!

A comfy chair and maybe a floorlamp, yes!

3Katz .. especially if i am moving ALL dressers to the dressing room, I think your nudge to keep looking is wise. I don't love the color and it also leans a bit country for me. I thought I could change the nobs to make it less country cottage style .. but I dont have the same space limitations in the bedroom turned dressing room so I can get something I love for that room.

Thanks, Jilly (and all!) .. My concern with the wood tone is that the floors also lean a little orange .. I had them toned down when they were refinished but they still want to pull out any orange from the surroundings.

I think I need to think about what KIND of storage I need in the dressing room. Right now, underthings, socks, pajamas and belts are in the BR. I don't have good storage for those things in the dressing room. I think either the dresser or chifferobe has good small drawers ... which would make sense for those things but I dont have small quantities of any of the above lol. Before I buy anything, I need to think about what would work best if I am starting from scratch vs making do with what I have.

Thank you all for nudging me to think beyond my perceived limitations. This newer direction feels right!

A rug would solve that problem! Sounds like you are moving away from them, but if interested, I would definitely want to see the color in person. If I had relied on the handscraped walnut floor photos in our current house listing, I would not have even bothered to look.

BTW, if you end up with this chifferobe or any piece that has hanging or not enough shelf space, it is fairly easy to add shelf systems. I always buy the wood sawtooth shelf systems from Van Dyke's Restorers. (LINK). We've added to antique armoires, used in the small walk-thru pantry of our last house and currently in a laundry room cabinet that is next to MBR laundry chute.where we could not nail. It has been nice to rearrange shelves over the last 40yrs.

I really like the dresser! The shape is pleasing and the details are very nice. Both the grain and the stain on the wood look very nice and I don't mind the tone. But, if you don't like the tone, then I'd be very hesitant. Admittedly I wasn't sure I liked the tone of wood throughout this house I just bought and it's really growing on me, so who am I to say?

The tone bothers me less for the dressing room-- more of the hardwood floors are visible in the bedroom. The dressing room will have a large rug covering most of the floor. I still need to confirm what kind of drawers will work best... but I agree that the shape is pleasing. I really like the proportions.

The dressing room will be a little more fun and light so I may go with a painted dresser in there. I need to take some time this weekend to think about what will work best there-- for both style AND function. I'll be honest, right now my underwear, bras and socks are just stuffed intoj drawers that are too small. If i am starting new, I want to do better.

I love both of those Funky, and that honey colored wood is making a comeback fwiw.

Personally i like a dresser in the bedroom if there is room. We have a good size br,so there is a bed, nightstands, a dresser, 2 chairs , small round ottoman and a large armoire (houses tv and bedding)., Dresser is antique with lovely carving around mirror. Perfect spot between 2 doors.

Holds mostly jewelry and accessories as we have drawers in master closet for clothing. I like to have a pretty vignette on dresser 😊 (Tina Marie)

ETA Funky, i like the dresser. if you decide you don’t like the stain, you could paint or refinish.

I can't say what would work for you or your space, but I agree if you are thinking about improving what you have now, definitely give some more thought to it.

Lots of good advice here, and what Jilly wrote really resonates. When we first got married, we used to go to auctions and bought some very nice, interesting pieces of furntiure. I wish I had some pix but there was a tall dresser with attached mirror in similar tones as the ones you show. It was really lovely and a perfect size. However, once we got it home and started thinking about using it, we noticed a very unpleasant smell. It was not horrendous, but it was not pleasing. I tried lots of things over a couple of years, and ultimately it stayed empty in an extra room. (Finally gave away). Definitely do the whiff test on any you go see.

I like them very, very much. The wood tone is so warm.

I have way too much furniture in my house, due in part to inherited pieces. I loved my bedroom set when I got it but I had to buy the entire set and its just too much furniture.

Thanks all .. I am pretty set on moving the current dresser and whatever I replace it with to the dressing room. It never made sense that I had some stuff in my bedroom but most of the other stuff in the dressing room. I just never realized it .. i just made it work.

I may use a trunk or similar for pajamas in the bedroom but it isnt necessary-- I dont *sleep* in pajamas so they are basically "house clothes" and could/should be in the dressing room.

I think I want to have a sitting area in place of the dresser and hamper -- but a vanity would make sense too. The bedroom gets very good natural light in the morning. That said, I don't know that I want the chaos of makeup/hair paraphernalia in what is becoming my calm bedroom. Currently I do my hair in the bathroom and -- don't freak-- my makeup in front of the computer (so I can see between the computer camera and selfies on the iphone). Not sure if that will change after my surgeries. Maybe?

More scope creep ...

I am now thinking of having the closet opening covered over and opening up the closet in the spare room (they are back to back). And I have been wanting shutters in the bedroom for a long time but they will need to be custom. Won't do this now ... too much going on in the next few months. Thinking late summer or fall of next year.

Also, I have two rolling racks in the dressing room. I wish I had selected more decorative racks but I got them for function/flexibility.

Update: The dressers above have sold. I did like the dresser and am a touch disappointed but there will be others... and again, I don't have the width limitations that I did in the bedroom.
