This is big error in kitchen design nothing lines up so no backsplash to confuse this space even more

Do you really need a backsplash there? There isn't a sink - personally, I wouldn't install tile there. I dislike when the backsplash + cabinets + countertop don't match up vertically. However, I am a bit OCD about things like that.

eam44 is correct - you just continue the line set by the upper and lower cabinets. The countertop extends in all directions - also beyond the drawer fronts - it is its own thing

Not all designers do what Bev suggested. I agree with eam44, end it lined up with the upper cabinets.

I agree with dani you don't need one there at all. Move on.

It looks pretty unfinished without a backsplash- at least do the same counter as it is easy to spill a whole cup of coffee on accident. But if you do tile I also like it aligning with the upper cabinets.

Backsplashes are done less for practicality than for aesthetics. I love a tile backsplash, especially something hand made/hand painted. I hardly ever need to clean mine as it really doesn't get very dirty.

There, I would paint, and you could hang small artwork on the back.

I vote for no backsplash. But if putting a backsplash, I think logically (maybe not aesthetically), since a backsplash is meant to protect the back from messes made on the counter, the backsplash should line up with the counter.
