Do you know what you will be hanging? The needs of the artwork itself also should be considered.

    Oh just family photos

Will the photos be all black and white or color. Do the sizes vary? If so, maybe unify the frames. Black metal or narrow fruitwood frames similar to the railing are possible options. Possibly bronze but probably not gold.

I would go with a combination of black and brown--you don't need to use all the exact same frames. Simple lines/modern look.

Wood the tone of the stairs or cream the tone of the paint. This is a narrow staircase and while I'm usually the first one to say yes to anything black, in this case it feels too dark.

I’m always a fan of a mix of frames. This gives the gallery wall a nice collected look.

I dislike gallery walls and in this case a but runner I would not do one but if you must then all one color frame and maybe the same color as the railing. BTW O do nlt like family phots on display in public spaces so the stairwell is kind of iffy . I do like tem in a more gallery type layout in a hall leading to bedrooms I never actually understand why this is called a gallery wall since a gallery never would display art in a mish mash on a wall.

You dont like family photos displayed at all?

It is your home and should reflect you. Some people here think homes should be design shrines and for whatever reason dislike family photos. Personally I find it ridiculous. A great joy is walking through my home and passing family photos. I also love seeing them in other people’s homes and it makes me feel it really is their space and their house.

I'm a BIG fan of family photos on display. I also like to walk through my home and see photos of my parents, kids and grandkids. It is so comforting. And I always look at them in my friends' homes, and they do the same. It makes a room so personal.

This is my gallery wall. Took a long time to place everything. I love it. If it offends anyone, or if the design police cite me for gauche-ness, well too bad!

It’s really a personal preference. Have you looked on line, which could help you to decide: black, wood, combo - what will suit your home? Consider picture and matt sizes and your preferred layout, as they are more/or as important than the frame decision

Love the examples here. Makes me lean toward all black or all wood frames.
