Choosing kitchen cabinet colors

last month

Which color would you choose for the kitchen? The third one was our old kitchen and right now we are deciding between the two colors (two first pics and last one)

The cabinets are fine. It will cost $$$$ to have them painted professionally. Do not attempt to do it yourself.

Change the wall color to something unexpected:

I think you're coming in too late with your Dilemma. Keep the current cabinets if they're in good shape and harmonize with the floor--can't tell what you plan there. What flooring will you have? Instead change out the busy backsplash to the lightest background color of your countertops. Add undercabinet lighting if you don't have it. Stainless appliances, when budget allows, would lighten the kitchen. Both your choices seem meh when you seem to have decent cabinets now.

You didn't ask, but the flooring as well as the cabinets should dictate your adjacent wall paint. The current wall paint doesn't harmonize with your original flooring, which is actually very nice. Please take a photo of the other side of the kitchen space.

Sorry all those base cabinets need to be drawers si IMO no painting wait and do new I have no idea what the dark at all. The giant fridge and the poorly vented range need to be addressed too. I would not spend on dime on the cabinets the 2 you are planning are boring at best

I presume you are getting entirely new cabinets yes?

A lighter wood colored cabinet -- especially with a light counter, will make your space appear bigger and feel more seamless with the light coming in from the windows. The light in AI pictures is so incredibly deceiving. Do some experiments of your own with full sized door samples, not just tiny little blocks like you have now. They are not good at all for determining how a whole space will look.

The real driver though is your flooring. It looks like your kitchen flooring extends to other areas of the first floor. Can you post pics of these other areas too? What floor will you be using?

I hope you will be getting cabinets that go all the way to the ceiling.

Kendrah: "What floor will you be using?"

She already replaced the floor with tiles shown in the fourth photo. The plastic was hung to protect the cabinets while she drywalled over the recessed ceiling light.

What is the reasoning with wanting to change the cabinet color?

@wdcruise: So the new flooring is gray tile with no gold tones of the original floor. But the mockups show something else, not gray. Okaaay. That's a bummer since countertops seem to be in a warmer, gold range. We really needed to see countertops and backsplash close up. Again, OP came to DD very late in the game after putting in new floors that don't seem to harmonize with countertops that are staying???

Don’t care for either option offered.

Hi all! Thanks for the comments. The flooring we’re using is Soreno Ivory that has some whites and creams. We think the current color is too dark and we want to make it more welcoming and more open feeling, but I am not totally against about leaving this color as I think that contrast is nice too. Here is a pic of the counter top as well. And this is the link of the current tiles: https://www.msisurfaces.com/porcelain-soreno/ivory/

Oops! I guess not even though the fourth photo shows the kitchen under renovation and she wrote, "The flooring we’re using is Soreno Ivory..." which is not the flooring in the fourth photo.

I'm so confused. Are you gutting? Ripping out the cabinets for new ones, using the soreno ivory, and then using the same tired granite you have now?

Soreno Ivory is what they installed on the floor. Pics not always are true to colors. We are changing the doors of the kitchen somebody is making these for us. Granite will stay . Thanks!

I think think the kitchen you want to destroy, is the nicer looking kitchen of the p ictures you posted. i would definitely leave them. If they appear to dark then, you need more lighting in your kitchen, and the right kind of light bulbs. Your old kitchen looks much newer than either of the colors you posted.

No one. 1st is too dark . The 2nd is too yellow-yellow.

Colors to avoid with your current finishes:

Very dark woods (makes room feel heavy, like now).

Cool blue-grays (can clash with the warm floor and counters).o one. First is too dark, 2nd one is to yellow-yellow. I probably would go with greige ones.

I probably would go with warm greige.

The only painted cabinetry that is universally chosen and stands the test of time is white. Professionally painted blue/yellow/green tones can be lovely in the right kitchen but one needs to embrace the loss of value they bring upon resale. The kitchen in picture #1 would be greatly improved by different appliances. The black is the issue as well as a freshly painted walls and ceiling, but as you say colors across computers is not a way to judge. Wood tone of cabinetry as you have heard from all the opinions is a personal choice. Just be sure you love your choice and it's not chosen because it's the one everyone else likes/is trending etc. In the end the function of a kitchen is more vital than it's appearance. A cost analysis on modernizing your lowers vs all the lipstick might be worth your time.

May be consider two tone cabinets? Taupe base and ivory top?

I’d vote for the first option,it keeps that original vintage charm, and the tile color won’t make the space feel too heavy. Everything will look more open and airy. If the budget allows, you might also consider updating the hood. A copper or stainless-steel hood works really well with darker cabinets and adds a nice, timeless touch.

Consider having the cabinets done in a soft ivory shade that is in the darker shade in your flooring. Compare the ivory color in swatches to see with the countertop and flooring so it's a nice balance.
