In the last 25 years we have remodeled and/or built new 5 homes. Every home has some design of the time tile/grout bathroom. It is hard not to get into the vibe. My daughter just did a huge reno on her house. My advice? Don't do tile in the shower and ceiling. It is a nightmare to keep the tile and the grout clean.

Because it is a remodel, look at the Kohler Sterling Accord seated shower, it is a four piece install. Then put your tile 24" x 48" tiles on the bathroom floor (easier to clean the grout) and consider wallpaper to make the space fabulous.

I would not have a solid wall between the tub and shower, at least glass on the top half to let more natural light into the shower.

I would use the same color/tile throughout, continuity makes a small space feel more lux.

:ight tiles on the walls and a medium color on the floor, too dark and it looks like a hole.

especially north facing. keep the shower light and keep the painted surfaces the same color/hue. At least three light sources, ceiling, wall sconces, and mood lighting. Soft fabric roman blinds for the windows, light wood finishes to add warmth to the room.

Will you really use the free standing tub? If you have one in another bathroom in the house, eliminate it and make the shower larger.

no bench in the shower, get a teak stool. How much ledge do you need? do a recess to hide the shampoo bottles, it's not a retail display.

IMO always keep tile schoices to a min. in a bathroom You do not have space for aFS tub IMO since they look best in huge open spaces and tyou need a min . if 12" all around the tub to actully clen around it and even then you almpst have to stand on your head to get behind on the long wall If you do not use the tub why have one if somehwere in the home there is another tub? I like 12 24 porcelain tile for both bathroom floors and shower walls the same tile only smaller for shower floor. Use a tile you like I prefer a solid color in a tone that works with my bedrom decor if this is a master bath The fewer finishes the less likely you will want change down the road . The bigger the tile the better your tile setter needs to be . I also like a stacked pattern and matching grout .Since this appears to be arenovation my advice is deal with the closet entry not from the bathroom but propably too late now

Good advice already - just another vote for a sleek alcove tub, the free standing models look best floating in a large space imo

Thanks Patricia and la_la Girl. We had considered a bunch of options for entry into the bathroom (placing the entry where the toilet is and could go either way but ultimately it really lost storage and minimized options for toilet placement.

I get what you mean about keeping things simple. Not planning on accent tiles. The hex is only for the floor and will match whatever color our floor tile is. Just looking for a base to build on with decor, lighting etc.

Would the dark grey floor tile work with the light tile on the walls?

Our neighbor has the same floor plan (their ceiling is vaulted - ours is not). Does this look too crowded?
