We have carpet on our stairs, LVP in basement, hardwood on. Main. Is this your basement or main living space?

We have a split family house. So it’s just about four steps down from the main floor as you walk into the house. It is not a basement. I hope this makes sense.! the floor that you walk into matches the rest of the house which is in the picture. This is the only room that has a different floor.

Something different. I wouldn’t try to match the wood in the rest of the house. It never looks good. I'm sure others on here can suggest another flooring, you can then warm it up with an area rug if you don’t want carpet again.

Have you looked at finding an engineered wood floor that is a close match to your other wood flooring? Is this part of the house on a slab? Engineered wood works well on slab foundations.

If you have to go with LVP, then I would do a tile design and not a fake wood-look design next to real wood.

Okay on that case I agree you need to not match it. Are you against carpet again?

I can’t do carpet again because of pets …

    Thank you for the feedback.
I agree that non-matching would look funny. I would be open to tile. If you happen to have any suggestions, I would love to hear them.

One of my relatives had a similar issue with one of their pets. They installed a hard surface ( sorry, idk exactly what ) but it looked like tile & then did an area rug composed of “Flor” tiles, that’s a brand. They’re easily cleaned & if it can’t be cleaned they‘re easily replaced, one square at a time. Looked great.

I would do a LVT (tile look) so that the color and grain don't compete with what you already have. There are some really nice looking ones out there that even have faux grout lines so you get the look without the actual maintenance of grout!

    Check Coretec's site Coretec Stone

Thanks for the advice. Do you think I should go with an off white or something light?

IMO either a tile or tile look but the right choice would be wood like the rest of the house . Are you pets old ? If so they need to be in a more controlled area still in the home but not allowed to go pee everywhere ever . we had old pets afew times and did exactly that so they were still part of the family but not ruining the house

I would go lighter natural red oak but definitely not gray or white.
