Very nice. Never thought I'd say a corner cooktop was a good choice but in this instance I think it works perfectly. Beautiful workmanship everywhere you look. Given that the house is not moveable, there has to be a tax advantage in NM (it's likely taxed as a vehicle) for her to have opted to build on a trailer as opposed to a slab. Considering she owns the land, that must be the advantage.

This is one of the best tiny houses I've seen. The craftsmanship is phenomenal!

This would make my MIL RAGE. "Why do people think we need LESS room. We need more, given our aches and pains. Who wants to be constantly knocking into walls etc.". Plus she liked her things. hahaha I get that, they are what brings back the memories and in the end it's all we really have. I see this in my parents now 90 just moved into a tiny apartment. They have what they need for functioning in life--but they are surrounded by little that evokes the life they lived. Frankly I pray I never get to that juncture in life, blessed as they are to have their health if not their strength and depth perception etc....

Very nicely done and she really seems to love it. But a hard pass for me for more than a weekend.

Oh yes, this is clearly a space for one person and, moreover, for a climate where one can use te decks a lot!

It’s very well-done and I especially love the decks. But the bedroom loft would be out of the question for me (what Carol said).

I always wonder about full-time living in tiny houses — if others have pets.

My first apartment was in an historic building in Philadelphia's Washington Square. It had a loft bed accessible by latter. And a skylight. It was so romantic, as is this one.

One would have to be careful, but it wasn't a big deal to me. She did say she usually opts for the Murphy bed on the lower level

Ha - I lived in a loft with loft beds and ladders when I was 20. I don't recall having to get up during the night very often the way I do now 😉

Interesting though I kept thinking it's like an RV and I could not live like that. I'd want a comfortable chair in the living area rather than a table and chairs. Then I wondered where the litter box was and if the cat can climb the ladder.

That ladder to the second floor would be a problem for me. My summer neighbor is building a tiny home/ADU in her son's backyard in Watertown (near Boston) after selling their large family home in Brookline last year. I sat with her to look at the plans over the weekend. Hers will be one floor and I'm so excited for her. She's divorced and older than I am. Don't know what I would do if I found myself single but I wouldn't be able to stay in our house here by myself, nor would I want to.

I could live in a space like that but it would not be so neat. I am my own worst enemy when it comes to tidying up. I do it regularly but have never developed the knack for picking up as I go.

Yes, an outdoor space would be essential. I cannot agrre enough with her about people living in monstously large houses.

The little wine drawers are clever and I love that they came from her sewing machine.

The only thing I really dislike is the backsplash but other than that its a great job.

It's utterly adorable. I could live in a place like that. Except for the up/down the ladder bedroom. It's fine when you're healthy and in one piece, but it could be a disaster in the middle of the night.

I never used to have to get up during the night either. It is now reliably once per night and sometimes two. Age and birthing three children has caught up with me...

One time my friends and I rented an airbnb with a loft bedroom. Going up and down that creaky ladder in the middle of the night was no fun. If I did it again, Id take a chamber pot.

It's one of the nicer ones and the outdoor space is so large and well-done. Joanna and Chip did this with a staircase (I might have to enclose each step, so not able to see the height : 0 ) It might even be a pull-down. Not sure.

It's lovely. But I need a couch. A table and chairs just don't cut it for relaxing and watching TV. She did say she wants to get a smaller table and a recliner.

Yeah the ladder in the middle of the night, or really anytime, would be a no go for me. It's a rare night I don't get up at least once to go to the bathroom.

We did stay in a house once that had a skylight over the bed like that and it was very cool to watch the stars at night.

Well i do agree it is not an age-in-place design, unless one wants to sleep where she says she does. I've always been part camel. Good thing. If I got up, I'd probably check the news or see who posted anything new here! And then I'd never get back to sleep.

Well, I found myself asking why she couldn’t have just built a small (vs tiny) house with a normal bedroom, living room big enough for a sofa, and a garage instead of the big metal storage unit (and shed). Seems like she could have done that in an economical way. It is cute, especially outside and the kitchen. But I couldn’t live there for longer than a week.

I just booked myself a tiny apartment on a farm for a class I’m taking in NH next summer. No sofa, just two chairs, and even that gave me pause…for 5 nights! But I will be in class from 9 to 5 every day so I can flop on the bed when I get back each night.

Back to the tiny home, as usual I zeroed in one some details.

One: I want this frog vase.

And two: I thought she was storing her apples in her medicine cabinet but looked back and it looks to be ceramic.

Sue, you make excellent points. I didn't listen to the entire video, mostly scrubbed through it and stopped when it was interesting. She seems to have the means and certainly the space to do something small without the tininess that demands compromises, like that cooktop in the corner and no couch-thing.

Until I broke my leg last year I never had to get up in the middle of the night unless there was some lower GI distress. That broken tibia did a number on my entire system. I can need to get up multiple times now. I even had a dream last week about waiting in line for a bathroom and people kept cutting in front of me. Finally I woke up and blessedly there was no line.

I had the same thoughts about a small home vs a tiny home .. there are some trade offs that I dont think I'd like long term. That said, it is beautiful ... and I love that it makes her so happy!

I have a thing for frogs ... other animals too but frogs are special. I didnt see the vase in the video but it is adorable! I especially love it with the daisies. I dont want to steal if from you Sue .. but if you change your mind ...

Just last summer, I stayed at an airbnb that had a bedroom loft accessible by ladder. Fun and efficient, but I would never install one when living alone at my/her age. I know I could trip going down a regular stairway, but a ladder is a much higher risk.

Otherwise, I liked the place, and could easily live there by myself. I think I'd want a sofa bed as opposed to the Murphy bed, so it could, obviously, serve as a sofa. I'd also extend the counter on the other side of the oven for bar stool space. I thought the wine drawers were a sweet touch, too.

I'm 50/50 on getting up at night. It used to be a rarity, so I think the scales are tipping.

And almost forgot to mention the sewing machine table drawers are delightful. I have an old machine in a table with drawers like that.

Abodes built on a moveable frame (trailer frame that can be pulled) are taxed differently than site built homes— at least that is the case in my part of the country. Mobile homes are considered personal property, not real property, and they depreciate over time.

I love the sewing machine table drawers, too. I have one sewing machine drawer on my kitchen counter, storing pens and small notepads. I also have a sewing machine table with drawers in my dining room. I should store wine there!

One's site-built home depreciates over time too (it is the underlying land that is appreciating, but it is not as obvious since the two are intertwined). Physical structures decay and become obsolete.

And yes, usually there are tax advantages. I did not pay too much attention to the practical parts or background story.
