hot water circulation system

I'm wondering if the easy aftermarket recirculating system for instant hot water in a ranch home is any good. To me, the cold water has nowhere to go but slowly seep back to the hot water tank once the sensor opens between the hot and cold at the faucet. Also, to me, it seems a third pipe system would be much better and more efficient as it wouldn't be competing with house pressure and recirculating pump pressure.

If you can install a return line, do it.

Insulate all hot water lines.

Thank you. That's what I thought. They want to sell the easy button, but I like to be through even if it means extra work.
