dining chairs debate

last month

Hello, contemplating updating my dining room. My style is more Parisian - mix of time periods and styles. I’d like to change out my dining chairs but unsure whether I can mix a walnut table with these chairs with a glossy honey wood back. Thoughts?

I like them better than what you have pictured with the dining table, but I'd look for something slimmer.

I like the proposed new chairs but then I think I’d want to change the chandelier to a warm color such as brass.

How does the width and back height of proposed chairs compare with what you have now?

Love the snippet of stairway art that is visible.

Here's a look at your table with the chairs you're considering. I would also consider replacing the chandelier with a brass model perhaps something like this:

and another chair option for your French decor

So I like your current chairs vs new ones but I love these newly posted white ones. The black and wood ones look cheap to me.

Context is everything and you have an eclectic, artistic space that allows for this combination to work well together. I think the Parisian vibe pairs particularly well with the black grid in your windows.

I am a big fan of Milo Baughman, and have some vintage chrome bar chairs myself, but I think they would be a bit heavy as dining chairs for a lot of people to pull in and push out and they would kind of drag them along the floor.

The frame chairs you show are kind of a take on French Art Deco or Austrian Biedermeier, so the shape, and the combo of the ebonized and natural finish work with the table. But I am not sure this specific chair is it.

Something in the French style with a bit more weight might be something like this:

I do not think they work with the table but I donot like the boring white one for sure . I do wonder how people sit on the side by the window no matter what chair I also think the chandelier is boring with that really awesome table The Beidimeir style could work but it is hard to tella\. Are the chairs near enough to get one to see I think that is the ony way to know I do think the ones you have are too wide as they look very tight to eachother

I really like the looks of the two-tone chairs you proposed, but have you sat in them? If they're not at least as comfortable as what you have now, I'd recommend you keep looking. The chair palimpsest shows above is also very handsome. Either way, a sit test is vital in my opinion.

It's funny but I keep getting drawn to the color of the placemats on the table in thta one pic I think I would look for chairs in that color and maybe all leather no wood or matl just a steel chair covered in thta color leather could even have arms sort of this idea

Hopefully, I am understanding correctly. If that is your table it appears almost black. So, I do think the chairs in the first pic would match rather well since they have black bases. The light colored wood of the back should provide a good contrast.

I think if you are going for a French Deco look, a Ruhlmann style chandelier would be fitting:

I know that linear over a rectangular table is the thing now (although it never was until recently). But they tend to remind me of pool table lights, no matter how nice they are, just because of the shape.

The chair you have selected is a contemporary stylized Biedermeier dining chair IMO.

Any of the examples below lean more contemporary French in style.

Some type of linear chandelier like these will take the edge off this area that reads a bit 'hard'.
