Britbox discounted billing offer

last modified: 9 months ago

Last year I didn't renew my Acorn subscription but instead signed on to Britbox. The fee was $89 a year but I had a discounted offer so it was less.

I decided to cancel my Britbox subscription because I just wasn't tuning in very often. It wasn't the quality of the shows but the fact that it's mostly serial TV which requires a significant time investment.

When I logged on to cancel it this morning I immediately received an offer to renew at half price - $54 for another year. The renewal had gone up to $108. I wish that tactic worked with other streaming services.

I don't know about streaming services, but it works like a charm with my New York Times subscription.

It works great for Sirius radio, too. Good to know about NYT...I didn't and will give it a whirl.

I had a similar experience with NY Times and Washington Post. Not with the LA Times which had a substantial price increase awhile back. I called to ask if I could keep my existing rate and they said Nope.

It also works with Xfinity (Comcast) internet, for which I pay less than half of what I pay for Spectrum. Spectrum also offers no wiggle room and at that location, the only option is ATT Fiber, at about the same price after the introductory discount. Not worth it, I'd have to rearrange the location of the network equipment.

In addition to a good price, Xfinity(Comcast) customers at a certain level get Peacock Premium for free. I don't watch it for anything other than its participation as part of the NBC family carrying all English soccer games.

I kept my Acorn subscription when I added BritBox .. but we rarely watch BritBox. I was planning to canceling it this month... maybe I am missing something?

I will give it a second look while with SO for the 2 weeks after Christmas.

I dont watch Acorn often but I do watch it.

I also use this tactic with SiriusXM. I just log in and do it via Chat.

If anyone has Mediacom internet or cable, ask CS for their Loyalty Department and you will get their best price.

We cut cable last year and have Hulu. Added Paramount two months ago - 1yr for $1. DH wants to keep it when the year is coming up.

Yeah I cancel my WaPo and NYT annually. I remember someone here telling us about that, and me and Elmer thanking her.

Along those lines, I read a tip recently for verizon wireless subscribers. Request a transfer PIN and they immediately offer you $20/month savings for each line for a year. Tried it and sure enough. For me with four lines, that’s a total savings of $960. You’re welcome!

What was different about Britbox was that it was an automatic 50% off. I didn't telephone to cancel I just logged onto my account and clicked cancel and the 50% discount popped up.

It was much easier than calling NYT and Xfinity and Optimum every year and trying to negotiate money off.

I've tried lowering my monthly bill with both the Philadelphia Inquirer and my local paper. They do offer a little savings but never 50%.

Renewals for the Chicago Tribune come in at some ghastly expensive number. DH calls, and it's "Oh, of course. Let us cut that in half (or better)."

We got into a big mess, trying to take BritBox up on it's $5 offer. We took it, charged it, then couldn't stream it. There are three or four serials we want to see. DH ended up calling BritBox to learn how to actually GET it. (That's fine, dear, but it's $10 now.)

The Modern World has hired special, patient people to deal with geriatric customers.

Agreed with NYT and WaPo, just cancel online. Sirius/XM seems to have tightened down in recent years, at least for me. I call and say I’m cancelling and they’re like ok and I’m like wait!

@foodonastump I've done it the last 4-5yrs and no issues. Let it lapse and you'll get tons of offers.

My last car (same make/updated model) had a feature where I could save/record something like 20 CDs on the car. I miss that feature, especially when I travel!

I got a come back offer from Comcast -- we never had the service, but had considered it.
