Is it a waste to amend in the winter?

I've found bags of amendments in my garage such as alfalfa meal, kelp me, worm castings.. and I have started to spread them around my plants now. Since these feed the soil and the plant, is this okay to do now? Or is it a waste of the product? I also wanted to go ahead an spread some Black Cow in my beds while the weather is nice here. I don't anticipate any of these products will spur new growth immediately, so I thought it would be okay to go ahead and spread now. Am I wrong here? Thank you!

I think it is a wonderful idea to put them on now.

Here, we have to amend in winter because summer is too dry to incorporate any dry amendments.

I totally agree with Sheila. I put compost on my roses in November, and Plant Tone on roses in February. Then in early March comes the Lilly Miller granular, and that's it for the season. I'm in zone 7, but if I were in zone 8, I'd be out there now between rains, spreading on whatever goodies I have for roses. I give other favored plants the same treatment as my roses. Diane

Totally agree with Diane and Sheila. I put my main application of my homemade organic mix on in (mainly) February, as soon as I'm finished pruning. I'm in zone 9b, but it's still pretty cold here. I like getting it on sooner than later so that it has time to start breaking down while we're still getting a good amount of rain.
