I suggest you remove the brown valence/ curtain over your sink as it makes the space seem smaller. Remove any clutter from your counters that you don't use regularly. I am not a fan of attaching things on the fridge as it also makes the space feel smaller and cluttered. You may also want to put only a few objects on top of your cupboards that are more to scale as opposed to many small objects, or nothing at all. The previous commenter's idea of using the same colour for the back splash as your wall is a good one if you love the brown. You could paint it first with the brown to see if you like the look.

I agree with removing everything from the countertops and fridge that you don't actually use on a daily basis. For your backsplash, mirrored tiles are reflective and could give the illusion of a larger space: [houzz=]

I once had the smallest galley kitchen on the planet and I bought two free standing pantries and put them in the dining room for the kitchen overflow!

Well if you're updating your appliances anyway, perhaps a counter depth fridge will fit? It will definitely give you more floor space. And the mirrored tiles will go great with the stainless.

A counter depth fridge doesn't stick out as far as a regular fridge, therefore doesn't take up as much floor space. However, they are wider than a normal fridge width so you should measure before you go crazy looking for one! [houzz=]

Ok, I googled it before you responded. Yes, I did measurements last week and my measurements for that space is 37 X 70 (WxL). I love that frig :).

Funny you should ask....I wanted to get the porcelain wood-look tile, too, but for my countertop! I love the look of a butcher block counter but I don't want to be bothered with the maintenance. I ordered 5 free samples from Build Direct (www.buildirect.com) and they arrived the next day. I was very impressed with the quality and the thickness of the tile. Go for it!
