Hearth decor dilemma

How can I improve the appearance of my large hearth around my freestanding gas fireplace? We replaced a wood burning stove, so we actually don’t need ash bucket and fireplace tools. However, I think they are okay to stay. If crocks and wooden box stay, how to accent/accessorize them? I have a third 2-gallon crock I could add. Built-in shelves are on either side of hearth. Room is on north side and doesn’t get much light.

for me, styling is personal. I prefer not to use decor just for the sake of filling a space.

I would gather all the things I treasurer, (and often don't have another spot for) and put together a vignette of sorts. The Medallion could be incorporated, but not stand alone. Her's a FULL example.

The symmetry of the alcoves frames the stove perfectly, You don't need much more, keep it simple. Style the shelves nicely & minimally. You can place large ceramic jars on the floor at the bottom. Next to the stove, I would keep the wood box and place logs in it and I add the 3rd crock you have.

If you want decor on the brick wall, I suggest a black frame shadowbox with something with texture inside.

    Agree…simple and calming.

I would go with lights for shelving.

There’s too much stuff there for me. I like lisedv’s suggestions and her idea to group the crocks close together.

I would move everything off and then start to add back. I like the 3 crocks. Maybe keep the fireplace tools. And remove the wall items.

I am not fond of the brick color, it’s kind of blah… have you considered painting it?

It’s very nice but there’s quite a bit of pattern between the brick and stone. That’s one reason keeping the decor simple can work nicely. The shelf lights Celery posted look nice.

IMO nothing . Not every space needs decor and the wall is busy already . Take it all away nad live with it like tat for a couple of months then see if you have to have anything there at all. Maybe the crocks

Agree that this is a space that doesn't need "stuff". Maybe the crocks, but they are so bland in color they really don't do anything to enhance the space -- they just take up space. Maybe if you got colored crocks, say a nice green color. No to artwork/decor on the wall behind the wood stove. It looks odd to me.

It is a gas stove now. We got rid of wood burner. But thanks!
