It will work either way, but, my preference would be to do the ceiling too. It will make the room cosier. I actually like the picture there, and think the after is much nicer than the before.

You are smart. A painting is not worth fighting over and it looks great with a navy color surrounding it.

Are you painting the entire room or just the one wall? If just the one wall, then do not do the ceiling. If you are painting the whole room then also paint the ceiling, but do not do the white trim with blue ceiling as shown in your pic above. Your room will feel bigger without that white band highlighting it.

In general I think the blue is way too dark. At night it will read black.

I don’t think the current tannish color works well with the dark blue walls. Either all blue, all walls and ceiling, or blue accent wall, other walls and trim whiter and either blue ceiling or white ceiling.
