Help style console table!

Hi:) I am doing a living room refresh. I recently changed out the decor on the round coffee table which I am happy with the way it turned out. Now I am on to the console to obviously work with my coffee table choices. I can move the lamp to the other side to hide the thermostat but in all honesty seeing the thermostat doesn't bother me. I chose that side because I already have a lamp on that side of the room. I would love feedback on how to possibly arrange what I already have or suggestions on if I need to look for other things. I wasn't having any luck finding a larger piece art to layer. I would prefer to lean than hang anything on that stair wall. Thanks!

Have you considered a tapestry? Etsy has lots of them.

Mary I found your picture frame Walmart this one place you probably have to go through.com and the other place is Wayfair they have it in stock so go check out those two see which one will work for you

Lisa-Unfortunately I feel I can't go 2 more inches wider with that thermostat.

Thanks Ann I am looking to lean something not hang.

Happyleg I looked and their sizes are too small.. Thanks for looking

Maybe check on The Print Emporium site

Have you looked at Jennifer Goldberger at all or browsed other abstracts?

Kcooz thanks for more art suggestions. I will check it out. Also I decided to move down the console to try and I think it works! I can get the 30 x 40 art without worrying about the thermostat. I know it’s a bit of an eye sore but with all the other things that look nice I can deal with it! I just wasn’t comfortable with the art leaning on it. I’m going to order the art in the smallest size so I can see the true colors. Thanks everyone hanging in there with me. 😊

P.S. I do need to work on the stems. 🤪

That looks pretty nice and I was also thinking of a little larger face but that looks pretty nice

Mary, great that you moved the console and I understand not wanting to lean the painting on the thermostat. But my eye now goes directly to the thermostat and I’m not appreciating anything else on the console. I now would consider hanging the painting and finding a beefier vase with taller faux whatever to try to hide the thermostat. Or if you still want to lean the painting, move it a little further away from thermostat. Fewer things with a larger presence would be my vote. This is a toughie! But, if you are happy with it, that’s all that matters!

Happyleg if I go with a larger vase it’s going to be tall as the lamp so I don’t think that works . Ty

Hi Lisa… if I hang it I could probably go with the 24x36 since it would be hung 4-6 inches above the console?

Would you be open to moving the lamp to the other side now that you’ve moved the console. Easiest solution with current objects….

Looking pretty good. Just slide art about 3-4” to the right. Small art too. That will create some space between art and the “beloved” thermostat! Lol

    Lamp on other side option

That feels just right to me! What do you think?

I like the lamp on the left but you're not supposed to put a lamp in front of a thermostat and if there's crystals on that lamp it's been pretty there on the other side on the right cuz the sun is shining in and it would catch those gorgeous crystals!

I think that works. If you put LED bulbs in the lamp, there will be no heat. I like ut!

Do you use the lamp every night? I looked back and I understand why you want the lamp on the right to balance with the other lamp in the room. Which is why it's good to see the big picture. Way back DIS posted a picture with greenery just a touch taller than the lamp. If you did wispy branches a bit taller instead of the full greenery you have, that might work to camouflage the thermostat a bit and keep the varied height.

I'm okay with the lamp being on the right if that's the only option that will work. Though it is a bit of a pain if you want to read or change the thermostat. Kcooz we do not use the lamp every night but I am going to try and find some greenery a smidge taller than the lamp to try. I did order the art in a small size to see the true colors.

Down the road maybe a new thermostat could be an option. We can control ours from our phones.

Ok so these branches are a little taller than the lamp. Thoughts on this arrangement ?

    I love it!

Sorry, Mary, but the branches in today's option look too tall for the size of the vase to me and they immediately drew my eye right through them to the thermostat which is what you have been trying to avoid. I do like the arrangement you tried four days ago with the lamp in front of the thermostat. It was nicely balanced and all the items curated beautifully with one another. Like Flo mentioned, LED bulbs give out very little heat and that was a very pleasing arrangement.

I think the branches need to be more opened up and splayed instead of kind of straight up. I too refer the leaning art over thermostat. I think i would experiment with that first. Take a look at the Pottery Barn website for ideas.

Hmm... I see branches that have Curves in them I don't think they're all straight I used to put p**** willows in a v a s e and they're more straight than any other branches I'm really not sure but f l o is a very good decorator we all know that!

I prefer the more leafy branches you had previously. Is there a different base you could try?

Okay, good you tried that but I'm not loving it. You said you don't want to lean the art on the thermostat but how do you now feel about the lamp on the left. We are not in the room so you are the best judge of if the two lamps are too close together or if it feels off balance. Since you don't use the lamp every night, I don't think you need LED bulbs and you would have to use them in both lamps. I hate them but that is just me.

Mary, which arrangement is your favorite? Does your husband have a preference?

    mary44 thanked lisalane

My thought is you should either totally obscure the thermostat with either leaning art or the lamp. Any vase with branches won’t hide the thermostat and may even call more attention to it. But you’re the one living with it so choose your favorite. You’ve been great in trying all options…..

Thanks everyone for more thoughts! Believe it or not I made a decision 🤣. Let’s keep the lamp on the left to hide the thermostat . We do not use that room all the time so it’s not a big deal. One more detail to pick which vase do you like better? Or neither? Thanks!

Yay! My vote is the simpler vase so it doesn't take away from the art.

Number one base I like I think that is called the Slender one

I like the one with the handle because it keeps proper scale and height in the arrangement. I like the arrangement.

  • PRO

You could use a slightly larger small art piece again for scale purposes.

The one with the handle has a unique shape and has personality so I vote for it! But, of course, the other one works as well. When does your art arrive?

The art should arrive this week. I ordered a small size just to see the colors. I want new ottomans as well in a lighter neutral. Those are 18” cubes if you see anything!

Hi 😊.. the sample art is here. There are actually I and II versions of this art, The larger is more lighter on top with more white showing which is II. The smaller one is a bit more creamy/ beige on top overall a little darker which is I. Not sure which I like better? Thoughts and votes please . Thank you! 😊

A little hard to tell but i think i like the one with the lighter bottom section.

Mary, the two look like the exact same piece of art but the smaller one is a bit cropped. Was the piece offered in versions I and II based on color variation? I’m confused..

Either one obviously works - they are so similar that you should choose the one that feels best to you.

Yes Lisa they are offered in 2 versions but look very close to each other. Here they are from Wayfair as you can see in one on the top right hand side a difference with prominent little squares. I’m confused too!!🤣

If it were me, if the colors are good in the room, I'd choose the one without the squares-Light I.

I'm late to the party. I like the way you integrated the thermostat into the composition in your original photo. I suspect that's why you said it didn't bother you.

    Did you get your art?🙂

Hi everyone.. I know it’s been awhile but at some point I do plan on getting the art. A lot going on in my life right now with aging parents. I’m exhausted but will get through it. Long story short my dad has progressed to severe Alzheimer’s after a couple falls. He is pretty much bedridden and very confused most of the time but still knows who we are. My stepmom has Alzheimer’s too not sure what stage but still mobile. Right now we have home health aides coming to their house 14 hours a day and that doesn’t always work out either with staffing issues. We are to the point of looking for somewhere to place them which is an issue too because my stepmom insists she can take care of him at home and she can barely take care of herself. Anyway I will be back and miss my Houzz friends. Please send a prayer my way. 🙏🏼😊

Mary Medicare will pay for a nurse to stay the nights for u to get the rest u need. My Dad had that & Parkinson.

Sending you prayers Mary! I know it’s hard. Been there done that. But you must be firm to do what is safe, and needed for their wellbeing. Eating is always a major issue for them too.

Is there such a thing for husband and wife’s to reside together but with total care? Like do senior facilities do that? Mary maybe that would be worth looking into? Mary It’s got to be hard for you and your family, I cannot imagine, but if you could get over a hurdle like that, it may work out for everyone in the most likely short time they have left?

    Ugh Mary, that is tough! So sorry you have to deal with this. {{Hugs}}
