Victorian pocket doors- need to replace!

The Victorian pocket doors in the fireplace room were taken by prior owners of the home. We want to replace them with similar Victorian pocket doors, but are having a hard time finding pocket doors in Victorian style, with glass inserts. Any ideas where to find?

Hold the fort! The sellers took the pocket doors? If so, they removed significant, original features. I know this sounds like a dramatic move, but once you replace original features of your home, you are lessening the value.

You likely have recourse if sellers remove Victorian pocket doors because they are usually considered fixtures (permanently attached), not personal property, unless specifically excluded in the sales contract; your recourse involves checking the contract, demanding they be replaced or compensated, or pursuing legal action for breach of contract, though negotiation with a realtor or lawyer is best first

Sounds to me like a custom job or finding salvage and having them fashioned to work in your space. Can you access the mechanisms for them to be hung?

More important is where is the hardware to hang them since if not accessible you will need to rip open walls . As for the doors it depends on the size and thickness . Go to door stores and see i it needs to be custom, they really are just doors thta happen to go into the pocket it is the hardware that will be much trickier

Thirty years ago, I wrote an article on the restoration of pocket doors for Old House Journal.

Unless you are in the advanced class, this is not a DIY project. You need an experienced contractor to do the project from beginning to end comprehensively. This will not be inexpensive. It would be difficult to get me out of retirement, but not impossible.

If the rail that the pocket doors hang and roll on is still in the wall and intact, life will be much easier. If the rollers were left on the rail, even better. Pop off the trim covering the opening (if any) and see?
