Kitchen Cabinets Expected 6-8 Weeks… 15 Weeks Later Still No Cabinets

Hi this is my first ever remodel and wanted to know what you would do in my situation?

I ordered kitchen cabinets through a kitchen and bath designer/company my contractor recommended. I was told the lead time was 6-8 weeks. It is now 15 weeks later and I don’t have the cabinets. I’m being told it will be another 3-4 weeks just for the boxes to arrive with doors and drawers to arrive at a later date. I’ve only been offered free knobs/handles as compensation.Meanwhile my whole project has been on hold for 8 weeks as they can’t do anymore until the cabinets are in according to my contractor. When I asked my contractor about his recommendation he said he's never had this much of a delay/problem in working with this company in the 15 years he's worked with them.

Are they just stringing me along? Should I ask for a refund and go somewhere else?

The cabinet brand is Legacy and presidential series. White shaker 5 piece

Thank you in advance for your thoughts/advice!

Only you can decide if you start over or not. The fact remains that most compies are all in teh 16 week range even for semi-custom. I think they hooked you from the beginning knowing they could handle your objections. You need to decide if this is a hill to die on. I would be furious were it me, but I would have believed the lead time from the beginning.

A typical kitchen remodel is 12-24 weeks. You aren't out of the norm--yet. Everything is usually Hurry--wait-wait--wait--wait--HURRY HURRY--wait wait wait_HURRY-hurry.

Thank you all. Yes the lack of communication has been frustrating as the cabinet order was place in September with the first expected delivery due on Thanksgiving then it was Christmas and now it's February and my contractor says he doesn't have much confidence in Legacy since they've now missed 2 promised dates.

6-8 weeks is normal for semi custom. Full custom takes longer. I’ve has 24 weeks happen for some brands. Knowing what level of cabinets, and who the dealer is, is important.

Have you contacted the cabinet dealer directly? Just ask them what date that the order was confirmed, and that should tell you a lot. They will require 100% payment up front to be able to order the cabinets. The holdup might be that the contractor didn’t have the funds to do that, until he took a few more job deposits. In other words, robbing peter to pay paul. Or, they have had issues themselves. It happens. Esprcially a single plant non corporate owned company.

I used to carry Legacy years ago. From what I recall, the cabinets were entry-level, but you could upgrade the construction up to Presidential, being the highest grade of all. Who did you give the deposit to? The GC or direct to the dealer? Legacy is not a higher end cabinet.

Sounds to me like something's going on:

    1. Maybe there is truly a delay with Legacy. But that amount of time seems excessive
    2. Designer thought they ordered but it didn't go through for some reason. This is my guess!
    3. Contractor delayed the order for some reason

I would ask to see a copy of the acknowledgment or a screenshot that it's in production.

My guess is a designer forgot to order, ordered it later. Or GC wanted it done later for some reason and he's letting the cabinet company be the bad guy.

The deposit was to the dealer. The dealer says Legacy recently expanded into the mid atlantic market is not able to keep up with demand. They are now saying I'll have everything I ordered in 3 weeks from Legacy.
