Siding? Hardy board insulation types?

I am thinking of redoing my siding with HardyBoard. What do I look for when deciding what the salesperson is selling me on especially with insulation they would use etc. The white area I am thinking of having them do in stone around front door and under the rooms in front of the house. I am thinking since I have a vented roof I can close up the attic fan.

I think the shakes you have on the house look really nice. Why are you wanting to replace them. I wouldnt change anything. except the front landscaping, which is very neat and orderly, but, all those round ball shrubs, need to go, and maybe a bit of roundness to the flower beds, so they are not so rectangular.

When choosing HardieBoard, focus less on “insulated siding” upsells and more on proper housewrap, flashing, and drainage plane — that’s where performance really comes from. Ask if they’ll add exterior rigid foam only if it fits your climate and window details.

Stone accents are fine visually, but make sure transitions are properly flashed. A vented roof doesn’t mean you should close the attic fan — attic ventilation and wall insulation are separate systems.

@Ziaam The front landscape was redone a few years ago. The way the house is situated on top of a hill you don't see it from curbside so I didn't pay much attention to it. Pus with deer destroying the flowering landscape had to change it up. The cedar shakes are warping paint discoloring. What do I look for in: proper housewrap, flashing, and drainage plane. The attic fan I never use I understand keeping it vented but is a fan really required? Thanks

Hardie Board is being installed on my current build in a southern state. The installer is using HydroGap SA on the walls, and copper flashing.

My parents have an attic fan in their house in Vt.- They run it in the evening during the summer and it really helps remove the hot air from the attic, draws in the cooler evening air, and cools down the house for sleeping. I wouldn't get rid of the fan.
