Moody paint color for basement update?!

I love a moody vibe and earth tones. I’ve had it with my cold gray basement and I’m trying to find the right color. I like the idea of a brownish or rust but i know that could go very wrong if i dont get the lighting right. I have 4 sconces(that are warmer than they look at 2700), a gold floor lamp on the way and plan on a table lamp too. My carpet is ugly tan and stained from kids but mostly covered by the area rug. My flooring is dark wood. We will be hanging vintage black and white photos so something that makes those pop would be great. Lots of updates in the works so don’t nitpick too hard. I just need suggestions for moody colors that compliment a green couch, my fireplace stand, gold lighting and accents and black and white photos.

IMO you choose wall color last so I woudl start by replacing the wall to wall carpet if it is dirty to look at I shutter to know how much yuck is under it. Then a nice LVP floor and a big area rug that you choose to go with what you have , invest is some good storage units and fter all that then choose a wall color maybe one from the new rug that is not all brown and beige .

You can do dark and moody but you needs lots of lamps or recessed ceiling lights.

Yes, I think so. It’s definitely not a muted green. So should I scratch the idea of brown or rust? I don’t have to do earth tones i just enjoy the coziness of them. I’m up for ideas! I do not have any windows in the main basement area if that helps. Anything that will bring warmth and coziness. 😊

You are not entirely wrong with the current wall color, but it just needs to be a much, much darker shade.

I don't think of emerald green as a cozy warm color. I think of it going with more bright, glam, cool colors. I'd stay away from earth tones for sure. Go for a very dark moody grey, plumy brown black, or a dark blue black to get warm going with emerald.

Raccoon Fur might work. Here is a pic of it in a basement renovation. You'll notice that you need a lot of light fixtures to get it to look warm instead of just black. And, I suspect the photo is way overexposed and the room is quite a bit darker IRL.

Because your sofa doesn't lend itself to cozy earth tones, I think you need some really fluffy textures in here to cozy it up. Shaggy pillows and the like.

Love the moody paint color recco's !

I think the dark walls could make the ceiling more prominent (which I would not want but every one is different) - we did our basement in SW Honied White (warm but still pretty airy, we have dark LVP down there)

Room doesn’t have to be painted dark to create warmth and a cozy feel.
