Need Ideas for Reviving and Decorating Fireplace Wall
Comments (16)Thank you both - Garza Concepts and Kelly Designs for your feedback! Very much appreciated! Garza Concepts - Your idea of adding lighting above the fireplace and the long, substantial piece of art is excellent. I love pottery, so that would be good on the hearth, possibly. Kelly Designs - Enhancing the mantle is probably our number one priority for the fireplace! It's great you honed in on that, too! What would you do to it? We've considered having a cover made to go over the mantle - like a stained, modern beam-like shelf that would cover the existing mantle and would match the beams we have on the vaulted ceilings (which we're restoring to a darker wood tone). We've also thought about covering the brick with a stone veneer to update the fireplace and give it that roman brick/midcentury look. We have darker hard wood floors throughout the home. Thank you again! This is the first time I've posted! :) Kind regards, Mark...See Moremain flr wine room w glass door/window = visible: decorating ideas?

Comments (7)a table one third larger than that would work better, I think. If you put art or something above it, it will probably stick out over the edges of the table. typically you want to keep any art or mirror within the borders of what is ever beneath it (I mean, it's not written in stone so you could do whatever you want!) . Do you like art or a mirror or something else there? do you have a more substantial piece, maybe in wood?...See MoreIdeas for wall decor and furniture for small living room
Comments (12)What a great space! Of course, I'm totally jealous because my house is only 12' wide. :) Keeping the sofa where it is, I think you'll need to buy a few things: 1. Coffee table or tufted ottoman you use as coffee table. 2. Two small club chairs. Size will be key here... no wider than 30" -31". I think a cognac leather would be great, but if the budget doesn't allow, overstock and wayfair have some nice upholstered pieces. Put them on either side of FP at an angle toward couch. Or -- just get one and put it on the left side of FP angled in toward couch. 3. Two small occasional round (14") tables (for the sides of the new chairs) 4. Sofa table for the back of the sofa. Perfect for family pics, a knickknack or three. 5. On your left wall, I think I'd either do a long funky wood/industrial credenza... or something with color - home decorators.com has a bunch of them as does the Sundance catalog (very expensive) - or - a tallish Ikea Kallax type bookcase - perfect for displaying books, fun items, etc. 6. Lighting. I'm not sure where your outlets are - and I see that you have recessed ceiling lights - but I think you need some lamps. Maybe tall buffet lamps on the sofa table. Maybe a pharmacy lamp for one of the club chairs. 7. What you do above the mantle is totally up to your taste - I think I'd do some type of panoramic old picture - (size 34"x10") along with a few (three) different candles. To the right of the FP, I'd put in either a copper tub, or big basket to hold some firewood, firesticks, etc. 8. And then... there's art. To the left of the FP, I'd look for a large vertical piece (I love old french posters, vintage national parks posters) - or anything that tickles you - but I think it should be large and hung pretty low. If you go with a low credenza on the wall to the left of the FP, I might look at hanging a largish horizontal mirror. It looks like it would reflect light that's coming through your sliders. I'd only get one piece at a time and see how it feels and works in your room. Have fun!...See MoreRait M
