How handy are you? This could be made quite easily to whatever measurement you require.

A quick trip to a big box store for some wood to make a frame - MDF would do nicely for the backing, some foam and batting and staple your fabric. Add some trim to make it fancy if desired....

With the switches there I might look for a lower bed frame and lower profile headboard plan anyway.

Your design should be easy for an upholstery shop to make. Call around.

I think your windows could benefit from drapery panels.

Lots of people have the headboard extend in front of the drapery panels like you see below.

The light switch location is an issue unless you can come up with a headboard shape that wouldn’t block them. Additionally, some upholstered headboards are hung on the wall via a piano hinge, but this type would block your switches. A headboard with legs would have to be pulled awayfrom the wall for switch access. As mentioned, an upholstery shop can easily make one.

Get one made I guess and an electrician to move the switches or a wall mounted headboard that sits up above the switches which will look pretty goofy .

Have an electrician move your light switches to a more convenient location. Or at least replace those switches with the kind that also have remote controls, so that the fixed location is no longer such an inconvenience.

You can buy padded headboards online then have an upholsterer make a slipcover for it with your own fabric.

Find a local upholstery shop to make you a custom one in a shape similar to this, so you go around the switches.

The headboard only overlaps the sill by 1/4”… can you just cut off a tiny bit of the trim to provide space? I also really like Beverly’s idea of adding drapery panels to fix the issue of the headboard overlapping the window trim.

If you purchase some Philips Hue bulbs for the lights controlled by those switches, then it doesn’t matter if the existing switches are covered. You can purchase their Dimmer Switches or use app or voice control. I have a similar setup and installed dimmer switches at the bedroom door and on the side of each nightstand, but we often use our phones to control the lights… very convenient if you’re naughty and scroll before going to sleep. ;-)

Thank you all for the extremely helpful ideas and feedback. Have convinced hubby to go for the Hue hub and bulbs for several rooms.

Have not yet broached the drapery panels idea. This would end up being for 2 rooms where the headboards overlap the long window trim. He will be concerned about cost. Any estimates? I’d probably also need a decorator to help me select fabrics and he has not had good experiences with decorators in the past. Long story. Hard to find someone happy to work on small one-off projects like this.
