Window coverings thoughts?

We purchased a new construction (spec house) that has 11' ceilings but unfortunately they went cheap with 8' door/window height. There's not any actual need to cover the back wall windows (the sun never comes in them and the yard is large and private.

My first thought was to do 10' high narrow side panels (non-functional) - the type one seen in model homes. There really isn't room to stack functional drapery anyway - and a non-functional drapery rod going across would be kind of strange..

Another fleeting thought I had was to do cornices/box valances to make the doors/windows appear taller - hiding the 8' height... but it's a big undertaking and a bit risky on the outcome.

The walls are (currently) all pure white so I'm trying to bring color in to tie desert southwest exterior, to my curated previous home's British Colonial decor. (The Ballard Designs dining area mirrors aren't hung yet)

Still scratching my head on this one. Once this is done it will maybe help me decide how to finish the entertainment niche.
