You are correct. A 36” cooktop should have a 42” hood above, for complete capture of cooking effluents. Even on induction, food gives off smoke, grease and odors.

Since you’re willing to make changes, despite the cost…I would change out the floors. Sorry to say, the grey LVP is awful…so, obviously fake, and the color does a great disservice to the lovely cabinets.

You should have a 42” hood. However you have a couple of things working in your favor. 1 - you’re installing induction which tends to have lower ventilation requirements practically speaking. 2- the hood is captured between the two uppers on either side which will provide some benefit with containing fumes. Also depends on how heavily you use the cooktop. If you are searing ribeyes in a cast iron pan on the regular then maybe I’d think about switching it out. If not you’ll likely be ok.

I have 30” cabinet 36” hood 30” cabinet. I have a 36” induction cooktop being installed.

The Miele KM7735FL ($3300) and the CR-recommended 30" LG CBIH3017BE ($1800) both have a large, 11" induction element, two bridgeable elements, and a fourth element. Perhaps you could swap the planned cooktop for one of these and leave the cabinets and hood as they are. Simple solution.
