A nylon bristle scrub brush can help your father in law work the product into the dark areas with microfiber cloths to soak up the excess. Or a shop vac.

You will be dealing with double application areas and single application areas, and soaked in application areas. They will still be PINK. Just blotchy and pink now.

Forget it and stain them dark.
