P and Q daylilies 2026

last month
last modified: last month

We are doing a double post today featuring P andQ daylilies. Just one Q here.

Patricia Snyder Memorial hasn’t done much here.

Pizza Crust, a good performer had much paler blooms, and fewer buds last season.

Peach Pizazz benefitted from a move. Its one of the few Selmans still here.

Primal Scream has done much better the past 2-3 seasons.

Purple Pawprint has been the bud queen several seasons. Last season had lots of buds but bloomed in the foliage. Past seasons blooms have been just above the foliage.

Quasar Cutie is an early bloomer that did well while other earlies suffered. Tons of buds last season, pattern is always consistent on every bloom.

Sherry: Great shot of Quasar Cutie. I saw it at a daylily show years ago and was offered a fan by the enthusiastic exhibitor. It looked great at the show. Sadly though I had to turn her offer down due to the possibility of rust which can be a factor in our climate. Too bad.........Here's my one P. I used to have lots of "p's" but somehow they all left me. This one is as good as it gets here for me and I've had her for many years:

    Paradise Road:

Sherry, your Primal Scream looks good.

    Maryl, Paradise Road is pretty.

Quasi Quasar, unregistered seedling. It was really short this past year.

    Paige's Pinata

Pastures of Pleasure, small but quite a beauty.

    Peacock Maiden, a favorite

Pinhill Claret Symphony, quite showy, tall, & large

    Pony

    Prairie Blue Eyes

    Primal Scream

    Purple Riot, a nice late.

    Prismatic

I had a couple of others but they said goodbye this year.

Sherry - It's too bad Patricia Snyder Memorial doesn't do well in your climate. It has such a stunning bloom. Quasar Cutie looks like a winner in every way!

Brad - Your red seedling is a pretty thing. I always like Pony and Purple Riot.

Maryl - Paradise Road always catches my eye!

I only have one registered P. It's Porterhouse that did well here last season. While it multiplied slowly in Nashville, it seem to be multiplying effortlessly here.

    Trio of Porterhouse

I have several good seedlings that start with P.

Perseus' Sandals X Jumping Jack Flash

Pink Aloha X Bubblegum Queen has a large 7 plus-inch bloom.

    Seedling X Pink Aloha

    Pink Extraordinaire X $exy Samantha #3

Debra, Perseus' Sandals X Jumping Jack Flash is quite a beauty. I forgot to post mine, but it is doing well. I will post it here. Both of your Pink Extraordinaire X $exy Samantha seedlings are really beautiful--I always enjoy seeing them.

Brad - PS X JJF looks good in your garden! I'm glad it bloomed for you in the first year! The Pink Ex seedlings have wonderful blooms, but neither has ever shown enough buds for me to register. I only register the ones that have gotten at least 15 buds at some point. The pink one gets 12-13 buds per scape and always reblooms, and the purple one gets 10-11 and rebloomed in Nashville. I use them for hybridizing, and I will always grow them because I love the flowers.

Sherry, Quasar Cutie always looks good in your garden. Maryl, your one is a winner and I do like the name! Debra, Porterhouse looks like it may have found its home. Such rich color! Your seedlings are looking great. I hope they flourish. Brad you have two I lost in the great vole feeding frenzy several years ago that I never replaced although I liked them both-Pony and Paige’s Pinata. Purple Riot is quite dark.

    Only have Ps here

    Pointer Sisters

Pea Gree With Envy was fabulous with many blooms and rebloomed twice. This is on rebloom

Pinewood Lilypad is a good bloomer

    Passing Fancy never stops blooming!

    Pizza Crust

    Pink Aloha

Pattern Popper did not have lots of buds but did rebloom twice

Pink Panther Paws was another winner

Purple Dwarf has monster blooms on short scapes-not a combination I like

    Purple Sails-a Reimer

    Pop Pop Louis

Perry and His Harem had pretty blooms

Pansy Face Charmer has dramatic blooms on short scapes

    Paula Goes Primetime

    Patricia Snider Memorial

    Plastic Pink Flamingos

    Pick Up Lines

Patsy Carpenter never has many buds but it is early, is nearly always perfect and I have the space to keep her!

Patricia Snider Memorial is pretty. I also like Pink Aloha and Pinewood Lily Pad.

Debra, your seedlings are lovely. I love the pink ones but my favorite is Perseus' Sandals X Jumping Jack Flash. Are you going to register it?

Penguin Tuxedo is a beautiful flower, but I have not been impressed with its vigor.

Peppermint Curls was new to the garden last season.

Perry and His Harem is a big flower.

Petalicious Perfection was also new last season. Since it is a reverse bicolor, we have been using it for hybridizing. as you can see by the tags in the photo. Of course, I had to get the gator in the photo too.

I normally crop the photos but I left this one to show all the buds Peter Pan's Kiss can have. The flower itself is 2.25 inches.

Pinkie Dinky Doo has an interesting shape.

Possum Que Shane is a small flower on a robust plant.

Princess Sonja is a beautiful flower on a slow to increase plant.

Professor Ninglecut sometimes will show purple teeth.

    No Q's today.

Nancy - I don't know if I will register the purple UF or not - depends on how its stats are here. In Nashville it had an average of 15 buds and a high bud count on a few fans each year of 17. In it's first year here bud counts ranged from 8-12. It's a good multiplier, but it doesn't have nearly the bud count of parent Jumping Jack Flash or grandparent Velvet Ribbons. It has only rebloomed one out of 7 years. There are just so many good dark purple UFs registered that I don't know if it needs to be added to the mix. It is striking with 40-inch scapes and a 10-inch bloom, and I will always grow it.

Nancy: I really like PERRY AND HIS HAREM. Never heard of it.

Brad: PASTURES OF PLEASURE is great color.

Kate: PATTERN POPPER, PINK ALOHA and PASSING FANCY are all great.

    POLLY ESTHER: Love the name

    PHILLIES' PINSTRIPE

    PRIMAL SCREAM

    PURPLE CHEETAH

    PINK TARANTULA

    PINEWOOD HOLY KISS

    PERSIAN RUBY

    PARADISE BAR AND GRILL

    PRAIRIE PINK LACE

    PINK STRIPES

    PROPER STRANGER

    PINK JEANS: A Bennett intro

    So Many catch my eye:

David: An odd color on Passing Shadow. Not my favorite. I always like seeing Party Pinafore and Passing Fancy, and Prairie Pink Lace make me long for the space to add more "P's".

Nan: I'm in a Pink Mood and Pinky Dinky Do is a nice pink color.

Kate: Always love seeing Pink Aloha. What form, what an edge! I always like Pinewood Lily Pad, but fortunately, as frustrating as it is, I don't think I lost any daylilies so no room this year.

Debra: Is that the Pink Aloha seedling I always like? Well I like it again.

Brad: You know I always look forward to Paige's Pinata. Thanks for growing it. I like the deep purple one too (Purple Riot). So saturated............Maryl

Kate - What a lot of gorgeous clumps you have on this thread! I think Passing Fancy is my favorite of these.

David - Prince Poppycock looks and sounds like a winner!

Nancy - Pinky Dinky Do and Princess Sonia caught my eye.

Maryl - The pink bitone seedling is the one out of Pink Aloha that you always liked.

Kate, Pea Green with Envy, Purple Dwarf & Pink Aloha are all so pretty. Too bad PD is short. I find large flowers on short stems odd too. I had one years ago, don't recall what it was.

Nancy, Penguin Tux and Princess Sonja are both very pretty, great colors.

David, I like Primal Scream, of course. Prairie Pink Lace is very pretty and I love the form.

I have no "P's or Q's" so enjoyed seeing all the pics. One of the ones I'm getting is Pinewood Lily Pad. Love your photo of it Kate. I have nothing like it in my garden so it wil be coming this spring along with some others from Korth.

Enjoy the upcoming weekend. No snow on the ground here and temps are back up till early next week when temps go back down and then we really get warm mid week and onward. So looking forward to spring as i am sure most of you are.

Edit: Hope Mantis is doing okay. Haven't seen him post his eye candy in this thread yet.

Maryl - I'm not sure what seedlings I will register in the future. It depends on things like what bud counts they get in this climate, if they multiply well here, and if I want to sell my registrations. That Pink Aloha seedling had bud counts of 20-24 one rainy season in Nashville, but in subsequent seasons there only had bud counts of 10-14. Here last year, it had 8-10, but it was one that got planted in late October. In general, the farther north a daylily is planted, the fewer buds it has. While it multiplied well in Nashville, it may not do so here. I'll just have to wait and see what happens. While it rebloomed in Nashville, it did not rebloom here last season.

I have been out weeding for a few days. So many weeds, and my fingers have still not recovered from carpal tunnel surgery.

Pea Green with Envy is registered at 22", but looks much taller with Kate. (I think I commented on this before.) Passing Fancy is one here that has been short and slow to establish, but has expansive neighbors. Porterhouse is very attractive, but I see registered at 21 inches.

Psycho Circus performed last summer. Out of Trahlyta x Stargate Portal (which was not a good performer here).

Peppermint Rainbow (Hanson) surprised me with its performance and color.

Purple Lives Matter is a later-blooming Davisson.

Peggy Jeffcoat was outstanding with the moisture (which built up a reserve earlier in the summer).

    Purple Cheetah (Gossard)

I agree that Penguin Tuxedo is a nice flower. It is out of Rose F Kennedy, so it is not surprising to me that it is not a fast multiplier.

Party Every Day (Davisson) has not yet been registered height.

Pink Aloha. Debra's seedlings look very good.

Please Say Yes. I find it quite attractive and reliable

Party Pants is a large, tall, and showy Davisson.

Partygirl Panties is a tall Hanson. A large, loose, floozy bloom.

Plumcake Patty is usually darker, but it was hot,

Princess Sonja may have added a fan.

Kate has a beautiful clump of Pink Panther Paws.

Pacific Mariner blooms later in season (Hanson).

    Purple Tarantula is popular.

    As is Pray Without Ceasing.

Pinewood Heart's Desire is short, but a winsome color.

Playing with Colors is a fairly saturated rose. Judy once said that this color is her favorite (not referring to this plant).

    Pinewood Holy Kiss looks promising.

    Penguin's Prom I find attractive (Rice, "5").

Professor Knows a Little is a Davisson that is naturally shorter.

Philistine Champion is an older Korth.

Passion for Red--I still love the brilliance of this Stamile.

    Pineapple Bites

    Norris's Pearly Mae

Pink Stripes has not clumped yet.

Mantis: I surprise myself with liking these off white doubles. Is Peggy Jeffcoat a hose in hose form?.......I like Pacific Mariner quite a bit. Off to look up the stats......Although Emmerich's grape base color doesn't appeal to me on Pray Without Ceasing, the overall bloom looks good. Any comments on it..........Maryl

Pray I need to see for another year, but it can have blemishes, and form varies a bit. It is fairly tall. Obviously popular partly because of the name. Yes, Peggy is hose in hose. I have never seen it so good as last summer. Like many diploids, it can take a while to establish. (It was divided a few years ago; division can be good, as we know.)

Mantis - You sure have a lot of purple Davissons. Do you have a favorite amongst them? Both you and Kate have nice clumps of Pink Panther Paws.

Porterhouse is a short, front of the border plant. I usually get scapes that are 22 inches tall.

Mantis, your Pink Panther Paws clump looks impressive as well. I did not expect to like it as much as I do but it just kept blooming and blooming and putting on those great displays of blooms!! I like Playing With Colors. I think Kay has shown that one as well. Please Say Yes looks like one that would catch your eye from afar. Passion for Red is indeed a great red. I had that one in the jungle bed at one time. but haven’t seen it bloom the last few years.

Favorite purple Davisson? This year, Make It Snappy and Sultry Girls were best performers. Each year takes twists and turns. I was very impressed with the early-blooming Spunky Girls, but for some reason it had a lot of splotchiness last year, whereas before it was always clean. Cade looks promising.

David, what is the edged cultivar blooming behind Prairie Pink Lace?

Paradise Bar and Grill did well last year, so deserves another pic. Out of Jerry Hyatt.

Curt Hanson's Psyche, out of Tina's Siren Song. An August 2 pic. Quite lovely. I think he was surprised at the teeth, calling the cross "fortuitous."

I like a number of yours; I narrowed it down to Psycho Circus, Pray without Ceasing, and most of all Professor Knows a Little.

Professor Ninglecut appears to be well branched. Purple Riot (an evergreen) is out of Dragon King, which is hardy here.

Professor Knows a Little is out of High Water Mark. It is, indeed, a refreshing lilac color. Performance still undetermined here.
