galley kitchen refresh ideas

Hi! Hoping to poll some ideas on how to do remodel our retro kitchen.

I like the retro charm but our main issue is a big media unit in the living room takes up half the kitchen and we can’t fit a dishwasher. It’s also pretty tight/not much pantry space.

At first I wanted to knock out the wall and create an open plan kitchen with bar seating but i actually don’t mind the separation. Here is vision:

Create kitchen nook seating by window
Maybe partially open the wall by hall into kitchen nook space somehow? Not critical but would be nice to have more space for shoes etc in entry.
Knock out media unit and replaster wall in kitchen to add dishwasher (plumbing confirmed would work without moving stove)
Potential flooring and cabinetry refresh with some of the retro feel…not sure on floors.
Remove swinging kitchen door to add archway opening to dining room/living room.

Just curious if anyone sees a different or exciting vision!

Post an existing floorplan with all the rooms that are connected to the kitchen as well as any doors and windows with measurments. We can not help without this.

As above. Every solid wall, every opening, every door, and every window has a dimension.

You can use graph paper, and be consistent with boxes on that paper and SCALE. - such as one box, 1/4 " equals ONE foot."

Yes to the floor plan and posted here in a comment in jpeg format. Right now that wall where that monster dated TV cabinet is should go for sure what a huge waste of space .

After the floor plan provide phots standing further back, and pick up / put away random items that clutter the existing view.

Difficult to figure out the room layout based on only your photos so yes to a floor plan of connecting rooms showing all dimensions.l

We await the floor plan. Include the contiguous rooms as well.

Based on your brainstorms above, remember when you knock down or open up a wall, you are diminishing space on both sides of that wall against which to hang cabinets, push furniture etc.

We purchased a beautiful apartment in which the previous owners removed a galley kitchen wall the year before we purchased it. They made a gorgeous open space. The first thing we did was rip out the new kitchen and add the galley wall back. It more than doubled our storage space.

Indicating load baring walls is necessary to know if demolition is being considered. Your pictures have no reference to each other. Are you saying the TV backs your cupboard wall? Pics with no dimensions are so deceiving right now I wonder why your kitchen did not extend into where you have the table. It appears a door was poorly placed.
