Stick Broom, emphasis on the word BROOM. Those styles don't have enough power to actually vacuum wall to wall or area rugs.

After much research I purchased this one. No belt, direct driven so I never have to work about replacing a belt.

The OP wants a lightweight, battery-powered, cordless vacuum. The Kenmore is heavy at 19 lbs, AC powered, and plugs in. The LG weighs 6-1/4 lbs, is battery-powered, and includes a charger.

Shark makes a good stick type vac for just quick pick ups. It picks up dog hair, nicely too, if that is a problem for you. Its cordless, and takes up a small amount of room for storage.

Bissell “ready clean cordless” is amazing. It has great horsepower, a handheld that can be removed. Perfect for wood floors and carpet.

We use a Shark. We need something that can pick up all kinds of things we drag into the house because we live on a farm. I can attest to the ability of the Shark to vacuum up hay, shavings, mud and fur. And regular stuff that is in everyone’s house.

Dyson cordless stick. I have the V8 - more than adequate and much less expensive than their other models. It's also lighter. The small brush attachment is fantastic for getting cat hair off furniture. It came with one of mine but I had to purchase separately for a another one I bought for a different house. Don't buy it unless it's on sale - they are significantly discounted at times particularly black Friday but also at other times.

Go to any vacuum repair place and they are all filled with Dysons. I want an appliance that doesn't visit the repair shop.

A brand alone doesn't mean anything because several products are sold under one brand. For example, several Shark vacuums performed well in CR's testing but some didn't. No Bissel model achieved a recommended rating. They also performed differently on carpets and bare floors. Before spending $$$, check the ratings and anecdotes on retailers websites.

Thank you all for the comments. Yes, I do not want to wrestle with any belt or bag at this point. As I mentioned, I have an Oreck Rocket which is pretty easy to use, but it is not for just a quick clean up under the table. I will look more carefully at your suggestions. We have two homes so I would likely need two of whatever I purchase. We no longer have pets except for the occasional visiting cat.

Dyson makes 16 cordless models from $350 to $1150. Unfortunately, the performance and reliability of an obsolete model purchased many years ago isn't very useful for evaluating current appliances.

I actually have four Dyson V8s - the oldest about six years old and the newest about two years old. They all perform beautifully. I did purchase a new battery for the oldest one because my housecleaner felt the run time had diminished. Both of my housecleaners were skeptical of a cordless stick but they are both converts after trying it. I have one upstairs and one downstairs to ensure they have enough power for the whole house.

I was raving to my neighbor at our weekend lake place about the stick. She was skeptical so I told her to take it and try it for the week. She was sold and bought one for herself and told her sisters and some friends about it and five of them also purchased. The design and engineering of Dyson products is a thing of beauty.

I’d recommend something lightweight and cordless like a stick vacuum from dyson or shark. They’re easy to grab for quick cleanups and don’t require moving a cord around

I have a Dyson V12. It is awesome. We've had it about 3 years, and it makes vacuuming so easy. We have hardwood floors, two cats and only a couple of rugs, so I can't speak to how well it would do in a mostly carpeted house. I love how easy it is to grab and use. It's lightweight, works great in tight corners and under furniture without having to constantly switch the brush head like I'd have to do with my corded vacuum. There are different attachments that come with this vacuum that I use, but the basic brush head works in a lot more spaces than my corded vacuum w/o having to change the attachment.
